We are seeking a skilled and strategic Indirect Tax Senior Manager to support the Director of Indirect Tax in overseeing and optimizing indirect tax operations across our brick-and-mortar agriculture retail, manufacturing, and mining divisions. This role will play a key part in delivering accurate, compliant, and technology-enabled indirect tax solutions across Canada and the United States, with a focus on GST/HST, PST, and Sales & Use Tax.

The successful candidate will be instrumental in driving automation, enhancing tax reporting accuracy, and ensuring scalable compliance across multiple jurisdictions.

What You Will Do:

Support to Director of Indirect Tax




  • Serve as the primary operational lead for indirect tax initiatives, reporting to and collaborating closely with the Director of Indirect Tax.
  • Help define and execute the department's roadmap for tax automation, compliance excellence, and risk management.
  • Provide leadership and insight to help align the indirect tax function with broader finance and business objectives.



Technology-Driven Indirect Tax Operations




  • Manage the operation and enhancement of tax automation platforms (e.g., Vertex, Avalara, ONESOURCE) within ERP, POS, and procurement systems.
  • Ensure automated tax determination and reporting is configured correctly for Canadian GST/HST/PST and U.S. Sales & Use Tax across store and business systems.
  • Drive adoption of digital tools to improve accuracy, visibility, and reporting efficiency.



Compliance & Reporting (Canada and U.S.)




  • Ensure timely and accurate filing, remittance, and reconciliation for:


    • Canadian indirect taxes: GST/HST, PST/QST, fuel and environmental levies
    • U.S. Sales & Use Tax across applicable states and jurisdictions


  • Maintain audit-ready documentation and implement controls to support data integrity and reduce compliance risk.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and evaluate impacts on business operations.



Agriculture Retail Support




  • Oversee indirect tax compliance for brick-and-mortar agriculture retail stores, including:


    • Correct tax treatment of farm inputs, tools, fertilizers, and other potentially exempt goods
    • Inventory movement across locations and provinces
    • In-store service offerings such as custom application, delivery, or equipment rentals




Manufacturing & Mining Oversight




  • Manage indirect tax processes related to:


    • Production assets, capital purchases, and intercompany transfers
    • Fuel tax credits, royalties, and resource-sector exemptions




Process Optimization & Analytics




  • Lead indirect tax process improvements using tools like Power BI, Alteryx, and advanced Excel.
  • Build dashboards and exception reports for real-time visibility into tax positions and compliance health.
  • Promote standardization of indirect tax processes across business units while accounting for local needs.



Cross-Functional Advisory




  • Advise internal stakeholders on tax implications of capital projects, store expansion, supply chain changes, and vendor arrangements.
  • Collaborate with Legal, Procurement, IT, and Operations to integrate indirect tax into decision-making and process design.
  • Represent the indirect tax team in business reviews, audits, and transformation initiatives.



Team Leadership




  • Mentor and oversee indirect tax analysts or specialists.
  • Help shape a high-performing tax team that supports the organization's values and growth objectives.



What You Will Bring:




  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA, or Master's in Taxation preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in Canadian and U.S. indirect tax, with deep expertise in GST/HST, PST, and Sales & Use Tax compliance.
  • Experience in brick-and-mortar retail, and familiarity with manufacturing and mining sector tax considerations.
  • Hands-on experience with tax engines and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative, hands-on leadership style.
  • Understanding ofagricultural tax exemptions and fuel tax credits.
  • Familiarity with audit defense, tax data automation, and process documentation.
  • Experience working in cross-functional, multi-jurisdictional environments.
  • Proficiency in data analytics tools and tax reporting automation.


Compensation & Benefits:

Salary Range $115,900 - $198,600 annually. This range is estimated for Indirect Tax Senior Manager role in Loveland, Colorado. Actual salary and benefits may differ based upon location.

In addition to base pay, this role is also eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan, consistent with the terms of our program(s) where discretionary pay out of awards is reflecting components such as performance of the company and the employee.
