In collaboration with Renown leadership, this position develops and directs the implementation of operational strategies for ensuring organizational compliance with accrediting bodies, as well as local, state, and federal safety regulations. Develop goals and objectives to correspond with organizational goals and department standards. Maintains current knowledge of accreditation and regulatory standards and monitors best practices throughout the health care industry to facilitate continuous compliance and performance improvement initiatives for the system. Leads performance improvement projects focused and lean initiatives, ensuring implementation of and adherence to improvement changes. Key Responsibilities: * Regulatory Compliance: Ensure system-wide adherence to health and safety regulations, including OSHA standards, NFPA 101 (Life Safety Code), CMS Conditions of Participation, and The Joint Commission requirements. * Life Safety Management: Develop, implement, and maintain life safety plans for all facilities, including oversight of fire safety systems, emergency evacuation procedures, and compliance evaluations. * Safety Audits and Risk Assessments: Conduct regular safety audits, hazard surveillance rounds, and risk assessments across all Renown Health locations. * Emergency Preparedness: Coordinate emergency preparedness and response programs in collaboration with clinical, security, and administrative leaders. * Incident Investigation: Lead root cause analyses and post-incident reviews for workplace injuries, fire/life safety events, and environmental exposures. * Training and Education: Develop and provide safety training and education programs for staff at all levels across the organization. * Collaboration: Work closely with Facilities, Infection Prevention, Human Resources, Risk Management and Clinical Operations to integrate safety initiatives. * Leadership: Manage and supervise the health and safety team, including safety officers and life safety specialists. Skills and Competencies: * Exceptional knowledge of healthcare-specific safety regulations and accreditation requirements. * Exceptionally strong change management, project management and performance measurement skills. * Strong leadership, team-building, and interpersonal communication skills, as this role requires interaction with all levels of staff, executive leadership, and external agencies * Analytical and data-driven approach to problem-solving and risk mitigation. * Proficiency in EHS management systems, life safety drawing interpretation, and incident reporting platforms. * Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-complexity environment with multiple priorities. * Competence in emergency preparedness planning and incident command structures (e.g., HICS). This position oversees the Safety Management System ensuring compliance with jurisdiction codes and standards as follows: * Set long term Safety and Health strategy/compliance direction to support the delivery of the strategic plan. * Accountable for the development of annual workplans. * Improve the Safety Management System to ensure that clearly defined processes are functional and maintained to manage business requirements. * Embed a culture of continuous improvement and effectively manage change. * Oversee safety summary reporting, performance measurements and results to governmental and public agencies, when required This position is the appointee for the Emergency Management Program for the Integrated Health Network and works under the direction of the senior management team of the health system division directing the activation of selected hospital-wide improvements in emergency management based on the following: * Develops and maintains of annual emergency management plans, policies, and procedures. * Review of the evaluations of all emergency response planned exercises and all response to actual emergencies and the development of action report/improvement plans. * Following these reviews, the incumbent will decide which emergency management improvements will be prioritized for activation, recognizing that some emergency management improvements might be a lower priority and not take up in the near term. * Duties included in administering Renown Health's Emergency Management Program including, but not limited to, the following: * Serving on State, County and Regional coalitions and/or committees. * Staff implementation of the four phases of emergency management (mitigation, preparedness response, and recovery). * Staff implementation of emergency management across the six critical areas (communications, resources and assets, safety and security, staff responsibilities, utilities, and patient clinical and support activities). * Collaboration across clinical and operational areas to implement emergency management, critical access, hospital-wide * Identification of and collaboration with community response partners * Emergency Response Training - System wide This position does not provide patient care but does interact closely with clinical, ancillary, and medical staff. Regular travel between system campuses and outpatient locations is required. Must be available for after-hours consultation and response in emergency situations
