Description Our Quality Engineer will work in a collaborative environment and will provide technical assistance and manufacturing support for all elements of product and process quality including inspections, root cause analysis, data collection and continuous improvement.This full-time position will report to the Quality & EHS Manager at our Safco Products location in Milford, Iowa. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support problem solving activities such as root cause analysis (RCA) and 5-why exercises cross functionally within the company.
- Initiate continuous improvement efforts to eliminate defects and reduce scrap.
- Create and support material inspection criteria for both manufactured and purchased products.
- Perform testing and inspection of parts using a variety of inspection tools. Ensure components are within specified physical, color and texture standards utilizing blueprints.
- Train associates in all quality system aspects, ensure quality standards are understood and applied, and answer operator questions to build relationships and buy-in.
- Support new product introduction projects and initiatives.
- Assist in creating a culture of quality-driven associates.
- Perform timely data collection, data trending, problem identification and resolution of quality issues in support of customer satisfaction, on-time delivery and conforming product.
- Participate in cross-functional teams to implement process and product improvement initiatives.
- Coordinate and participate in the investigation and resolution of customer complaints.
- Support and assist with supplier quality audits.
- Support suppliers in product design and manufacturing processes.
- Initiates and supports ECO activities for QA Department.
- Timely problem identification, analysis, resolution and verification of quality issues.
- Clear documentation of quality issues to manufacturing and suppliers.
- Other duties, as assigned
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Minimum of two years of college education, with a certificate or degree preferred; OR a minimum of five years of relevant work experience in manufacturing and continuous improvement or a related field.
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
- Demonstrated ability to collect, analyze and interpret data
- Ability to understand engineering drawings
- Excellent technical communication skills
- Ability to work cross-functionally across all levels within the organization
- Demonstrated ability to articulate issues clearly to both technical and non-technical team members
- Ability to work proactively while taking initiative in dynamic environments
- Exhibit high attention to detail and exercise sound judgment in decisions
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Experience in manufacturing, logistics, or industrial operations.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement tools such as Kaizen or 5S.
- Basic project management skills and familiarity with project management tools.
- Experience with ERP system, JD Edwards a plus.
- Proficiency in using tools for quality controls (e.g., CMS devices, Calipers and/or general measuring devices, AutoCAD, or similar)
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS The starting base salary range for this position is $72,379 - $90,474 per year. The compensation posted is the anticipated pay for the position at the time of the posting. We may pay above or below posted amount based on several factors, including, but not limited to education and/or certifications, skills, experience, or work location. Some positions may qualify for additional compensation in the form of bonuses.
