Animal Technician II - SACP

The Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine seeks an Animal Technician to support the Small Animal Community Practice (SACP). The ideal candidate is extremely reliable, self-motivated, and has a team-based approach. They should also be interested in working in an innovative and stimulating environment that will assist in providing excellent experience with cats and dogs in patient care and husbandry. In this role, under the direct supervision of a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) or DVM, you will be responsible for assistance with patient care as well as clinic maintenance and overall cleaning.

The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Assist Clinicians and LVT with guiding student clinicians in the areas of time management, efficient case flow, client communication and restraint.
• Assist Clinicians and LVTs with patient receiving and assigned tasks to perform exemplary patient care and handling
• Assist with monitoring of patients post procedures, as directed, communicating with clinician and LVT any updates or concerns
• Submit and set-up diagnostic tests ordered by clinician
• Clean, pack and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment according to hospital protocols.
• Help keep all areas of SACP stocked appropriately.

Employees working in the hospital must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire, which will be paid for by the department.

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma and up to 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination
• Must be a self-starter, detail oriented, and highly organized.
• Must be extremely reliable and have a disciplined work ethic.
• Ability to develop and maintain professional working relationships and communicate with staff, veterinarians, clients, and the general public.
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, which includes, but are not limited to, stressful situations, prolonged standing and kneeling, lifting heavy patients which may exceed 50 pounds.
• Ability to learn and master the practice electronic medical record system, ezyVet, and other integrated systems.
• Ability to work collaboratively as a team member and independently in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
• Ability to receive and offer constructive criticism.

Important Details about the Position

• This is an onsite position located in Ithaca, NY.
• We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship, now or in the future, for this position.
• Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.

This position may include a rotating Saturday schedule, as well as responsibilities during SOS and HQHVSN Clinic days. The Cornell University Hospital for Animals provides 24-hour care for pets 365 days of the year. The schedule for this position requires flexibility to ensure that adequate patient care and service needs are provided without interruption or exception. Schedule will require/include weekend, holiday and night shifts, as well as weekend day shifts. Cross-training with other services to support business continuity will be expected as time/business need allows. If business needs change, a position/individual may be realigned within the CUHA to a different shift or service.
