Position summary: The Wire Room Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of the wire room, ensuring efficient production processes, maintaining quality standards, and meeting production goals. The manager leads and supervises a team of workers, coordinates with other departments, and drives continuous improvement in safety, quality, and efficiency. Key Responsibilities:
- Operations Management:
- Oversee day-to day operations of the wire room including cutting, spooling, and packaging of wire products.
- Ensure orders are processed accurately and on time to meet delivery deadlines.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) to enhance efficiency and reduce errors.
- Plan and schedule large-scale jobs, coordinating with sales, customers, and other stakeholders to ensure successful completion and customer satisfaction.
- Inventory Control:
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with purchasing to reorder stock as needed.
- Conduct regular audits to ensure inventory accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain detailed records of wire usage, waste, and stock levels.
- Team Leadership:
- Supervise, train, and mentor wire room staff, ensuring proficiency in their roles.
- Schedule and assign work shift to ensuring adequate coverage for operational needs, including managing any and all HR support functions (i.e. ADP, time keeping, schedule planning).
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to improve team performance.
- Quality Control:
- Ensure wire products cut and spooled according to customer specifications and quality standards.
- Implement quality checks at various stages of production.
- Address and resolve quality issues or customer complaints related to the wire department.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Enforce safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment in the wire room.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
- Conduct regular safety audits and training sessions for wire room staff.
- Equipment Maintenance:
- Oversee maintenance and repair of wire cutting and spooling equipment to minimize downtime.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams or external vendors for timely repairs and servicing.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with other departments, including but not limited to sales, customer service, and logistics, to ensure seamless order fulfillment.
- Participate in cross-functional meetings to discuss improvements and needs as weel as customer requirements.
- Reporting:
- Generate reports on wire performance, including productivity, inventory levels, and safety incidents.
- Provide insights and recommendations to senior management based on operational data.
- Take proactive measures to address and fulfill business needs efficiently and effectively, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; a degree in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field is a plus.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a warehouse or distribution center environment, with at least 2 years in supervisory or management role.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of wire products and cutting/spooling processes; familiarity with inventory management systems.
- Skills: Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills; ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in warehouse management software (WMS) and Microsoft Office Suite; ability to operate and troubleshoot wire cutting and spooling equipment.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to maneuver through racks, aisles, and various plant areas.
- Required to perform physical activites such as sitting, standing, bending, stooping, lifting up to 50 lbs, and walking for up extended periods of time.
- May need to operate equipment typically found in a manufacturing environment, including material handling equipment.
