POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the general direction of the Vice President Revenue Cycle, the Senior Director Coding, CDI and Vendor Management will set the vision and strategy in those areas to support critical revenue cycle initiatives and goals. S/he will develop policies, procedures, and workflows related to CDCI and HIM across community and academic hospitals. Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations, Joint Commission standards and BMC policies and procedures. Fosters and promotes a culture of excellence in customer service to internal and external clients. Builds trust and collaboration amongst the team by enhancing employee engagement, addressing performance results, and providing coaching and mentoring.

Schedule: Full Time- Hybrid

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

Defines the vision and leads the organization, builds system and process standardization related to CDCI and HIM. Ensures that staff understands the vision, goals and strategies within the department and how it ties into the enterprise as a whole.


  • Provides leadership for departmental services through collaboration with customers, employees, physicians, practices, other internal departments and services, vendors, etc.,

  • Develops relationships with senior leadership, physicians, administrative directors, associates, service line leaders and other stakeholders.

  • Develops and maintains appropriate technology infrastructure to support a high functioning organization.

  • Formulates sound productivity goals. Tracks measurement against these goals to ensure accountability.

  • Responsible for effective identification of staffing resources, recruitment, allocation of resources, retention, recommending salary changes and corrective action/ progressive discipline.

  • Provides direct or indirect supervision for a staff of approximately 60 FTEs. Ensures development and continuing education of staff through education, orientation, competency assessments including appropriate certifications.


Oversees all ongoing activities related to the development, implementation, maintenance of, and adherence to Boston Medical Center's policies and procedures covering the privacy of, and access to, patient health information in compliance with federal and state laws and the healthcare organization's information privacy practices.


  • Ensure that activities conducted support requirements of key external agencies such as CMS, The Joint Commission, State of Massachusetts and other professional groups to whom data is reported

  • Play a lead role in Joint Commission readiness preparation and surveys, and other surveys.

  • Ensures that coding staff are compliant with current coding standards and practices.

  • Participates at a high level in Forms Committee, Policies and Procedures Committee and others as assigned to assure compliance with hospital and regulatory agency requirements for Health Information Management issues.


Responsible for effective fiscal management of departmental operations to ensure proper utilization of departmental financial resources; develops the departmental budget and manages to budget.

  • Responsible for annual budget of approximately $7-$8 million

Performs other tasks as needed.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master's degree and a minimum of 8 years related management experience required. Demonstrated leadership experience in the medical field required.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Management experience in an academic medical center.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Certification as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) is required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS PREFERRED:

  • None

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSAs):


  • Working knowledge of coding requirements for inpatient and outpatient claims. Knowledge of healthcare compliance, including privacy and security regulations, confidentiality laws, access and release of information.

  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and abilities with strong capabilities in change management.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple, complex projects with high quality results.

  • Excellent verbal, written and attentive listening communication skills.

  • Strong collaborative skills to form working relationships with vendors, other departments, senior management, physicians and executives.

  • Appreciation of timeliness with resolving issues and determining priorities. Strong planning and delegation skills, including ability to develop and cross-train staff.

  • Solid understanding of Epic applications.
