McWane, Inc. is seeking an experienced and dynamic Pattern and Machine Shop Manager to lead our tooling oversight for its Anniston Operations, which includes two distinguished divisions: M&H Valve and Tyler Union.

Job Description

Position Summary:

The Pattern/Machine Shop Manager is responsible for tooling, fabrication, and maintenance within the foundry. This role ensures that all tooling meets stringent quality standards, aligns with production schedules, and supports cost efficiency goals. The manager works cross-functionally with engineering, production, and quality teams to drive manufacturing excellence and continuous improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership & Management

  • Supervise, train, and mentor pattern shop and tooling personnel.
  • Plan, prioritize, and coordinate pattern and tooling activities to meet production deadlines.
  • Enforce compliance with safety, quality, and environmental regulations.
  • Collaborate with engineering on new product introductions and tooling design enhancements.
  • Manage tooling inventory, ensuring accurate documentation, proper storage, and lifecycle tracking.

Process Improvement

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives using lean manufacturing principles.
  • Evaluate and upgrade tooling processes and equipment to improve efficiency, quality, and reliability.
  • Diagnose and resolve tooling-related issues promptly to minimize downtime.

Budget & Cost Control

  • Develop and manage the pattern shop and tooling budget.
  • Source and manage external vendors for tooling and material procurement.
  • Monitor tooling expenditures and identify opportunities for cost savings.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain detailed records of tooling designs, revisions, and maintenance history.
  • Ensure all tooling and processes comply with industry standards and customer specifications.

Managerial Responsibilities:

  • Carry out supervisory duties in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include training, planning, assigning, and directing work; performance appraisals; rewarding and disciplining employees; and resolving conflicts.
Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, manufacturing technology, or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of experience in a foundry environment with a focus on pattern making and tooling.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory or managerial experience.
  • Strong knowledge of foundry processes, materials, and tooling techniques.
  • Experience with 3D printing or additive manufacturing in tooling (preferred).
  • Familiarity with ISO or other quality management systems (preferred).

Working Conditions:

  • Physical activities include climbing, lifting (up to 50 lbs), balancing, walking, standing, stooping, and handling tools and materials.
  • Work environment varies from office settings to plant environments that may be hot, cold, dusty, and noisy.
  • Regular presence in the plant is required.
  • Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and hard hats.
