The Corporate Information Services Department is seeking a dynamic and talented Software Engineer II - API Developer.

We are seeking a Software Engineer II - API Developer to contribute to the development, optimization, and integration of API solutions in healthcare technology. You will work closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to build secure and scalable APIs that enhance interoperability, data security, and healthcare operations.

Key Responsibilities include:

Development and Design:

  • Develop and maintain scalable, high-performance APIs for healthcare applications.
  • Implement secure integration solutions for EHRs, medical devices, and third-party platforms with guidance from senior engineers.
  • Support compliance efforts by following HIPAA, GDPR, and healthcare standards (HL7, FHIR, DICOM).
  • Optimize API performance through techniques such as caching and efficient data retrieval.
  • Apply security best practices, including OAuth, JWT, and RBAC.

Maintenance and Support:

  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and healthcare professionals to align API solutions with clinical needs.
  • Participate in code reviews and team discussions to improve API development best practices.
  • Stay updated on healthcare API trends and emerging technologies.

Qualifications

Position Requirements:

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in API development, ideally within healthcare or regulated industries.
  • Proficiency in RESTful APIs and familiarity with GraphQL. Hands-on experience in designing scalable architecture is a plus.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, Go, or JavaScript.
  • Basic understanding of healthcare standards (HL7, FHIR, DICOM) and data privacy regulations (HIPAA, GDPR).
  • Experience with SQL & NoSQL databases for healthcare data storage and retrieval.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud) and API gateway technologies.
  • Knowledge of microservices architecture, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and event-driven systems.
  • Familiarity with authentication methods like OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect.
  • Experience in CI/CD pipelines, DevOps, and automated API deployment strategies
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot API-related issues.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate across teams.

  • Ensure secure healthcare integrations: Implement robust authentication and authorization protocols, including OAuth 2.0, JWT, and RBAC, to protect sensitive patient information.
  • Support compliance and interoperability: Follow HIPAA, GDPR, and healthcare standards (HL7, FHIR, DICOM) to ensure APIs meet regulatory and security requirements. Collaborate with compliance teams to stay updated on evolving regulations.
  • Optimize API performance: Use techniques such as caching, rate limiting, and efficient data retrieval to enhance responsiveness and scalability of APIs in high-demand healthcare environments.
  • Assist in designing API specifications: Contribute to API design discussions, ensuring adherence to best practices in RESTful API architecture and assisting with GraphQL implementations where applicable.
  • Collaborate across teams: Work closely with senior engineers, product managers, and healthcare professionals to align API solutions with clinical workflows and healthcare IT needs. Engage in cross-functional problem-solving sessions to improve data exchange efficiency.
  • Participate in code reviews and knowledge sharing: Provide feedback to peers, incorporate best practices, and engage in discussions on improving API reliability and maintainability.
  • Contribute to microservices architecture: Assist in designing containerized API solutions using Docker and Kubernetes, supporting modular and scalable healthcare platforms.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve API-related issues: Diagnose and resolve integration errors, performance bottlenecks, and security vulnerabilities, ensuring high availability of healthcare services.
  • Stay up to date with healthcare API trends: Research emerging technologies, frameworks, and integration patterns to recommend improvements in API development strategies.

Travel Requirements: 5% US or International travel
