About this Position

This position involves providing support for several technical service areas and will be based out of Pinyon's Lakewood, CO office. Some travel to Western states will also be required.

The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to those stated below. Training (internal or external) will be provided as required by the task and individual experience.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Conduct Phase I ESAs, Phase II ESAs, Preliminary Investigation, Remedial Investigations, and Environmental audits.
  • Perform field tasks, such as soil logging, preparation of boring logs, monitoring well installation, soil sampling, groundwater sampling, water level/groundwater gradient surveys, ground elevation surveys, etc., under the direction or senior staff or project managers.
  • Assist in planning and conducting site investigations and support data collection and reporting under guidance of senior staff.
  • Apply standard field practices and techniques in specific situations.
  • Drive company, rental, or personal vehicles (mileage will be reimbursed) to report to job sites, sample delivery, etc.
  • Understand, interpret, and apply environmental regulations.
  • Communicate effectively throughout the project lifecycle; proactively responds to internal and external client requests.
  • Apply knowledge of natural sciences (geology, soil characteristics, chemistry, physics, biology, hydrology, and mathematics) to explain observations.
  • Maintain project documents and records in an organized and easily understood fashion.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geology, Geologic Engineering, GeoScience or similar field and 0 to 1 year of experience.


Or

  • Associate's Degree in Environmental Science plus 2 years of experience in Environmental Consulting or Related Field
  • Qualifying Experience includes completing Phase I and Phase II ESAs, subsurface investigations, site characterization, subcontractor oversight, borehole logging, monitoring well construction, soil and groundwater sampling, asbestos in soil removal oversight.
  • Familiarity with standard environmental field equipment (photoionization detector, water level meter, water quality meter, survey equipment, health and safety equipment, methane monitoring equipment, colorimetric tubes, etc.) beneficial but not required.
  • Completion of 40-hour OSHA training is preferred but not required; however, the expectation is that the candidate will complete training as required.
  • Asbestos in soil and asbestos building survey experience and certifications beneficial but not required; however, the expectation is that the candidate be willing to obtain the necessary certifications upon hire.
  • Familiarity with the following is beneficial, but not required:

    • ASTM E1527-21
    • ASTM D2488 - Visual-Manual Method or Unified Soil Classification System (USCS)
    • State environmental regulations (Soil, Groundwater, Surface Water, Soil Gas, Vapor Intrusion): Arizona, Colorado, North Dakota, Wyoming
    • Standard environmental field equipment (e.g., PID, water level meter, water quality meter, multi-gas meter)
    • GPS and surveying
    • Environmental monitoring during construction
    • Data analysis and data visualization using Excel or other programs
    • Asbestos building inspections
    • Colorado asbestos in soil regulations and processes
    • Lead paint inspections


  • Applicants must be willing to take on various tasks and be eager to cross-train in multiple environmental disciplines.
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Candidates should have the capacity to work outdoors in all seasons through various kinds of weather, extended workdays or work weeks may be required.
