Job Summary
WINS Explainers deliver engaging, hands-on science programs to the museum's diverse visitors. Explainers serve as science facilitators, sparking excitement, curiosity, questioning, and an appreciation for scientific research and collections at the Academy.
Depending on their interests or skills, Explainers will train to work in our exhibits (Butterflies, Outside In, Dig, Paleo Lab, LAC and Special Exhibits) as well as at our regularly scheduled festivals (such as Paleopalooza and Bugfest).
Hours are variable; Explainers are expected to work 3 days a week including a weekend-day during the summer; and one weekend day, every weekend during the school year. They will also have the option to work on holidays.
Essential Functions
- Teach hands-on science programs to the public and to visiting groups and actively engage visitors in learning science; topics range from dinosaurs, biodiversity, climate change, ecology, evolution, invertebrates, and more.
- Be happy, helpful, and courteous to all visitors and colleagues.
- Attend all training sessions for the position.
- Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Must have completed WINS I transitioned into WINS II.
- Minimum of Must be a WINS II in good standing with a minimum B average grades and 75% WINS attendance.

Additional Information
This is a Part-Time Temporary position classified as Non-Exempt. The offered pay is based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
