Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Career Counseling Officer (Technology, Engineering, and Applied Sciences) for the Career Exploration and Success. Reporting to the Associate Director for Career Success Strategy, this role ensures students interested in healthcare, life sciences, and medical professions can successfully navigate career pathways, build industry connections, and develop the competencies needed for long-term success. The Senior Assistant Director will develop career programs that help students explore professional opportunities, secure internships and research experiences, and connect with employers and alumni in the field. This role requires strategic decision-making, initiative development, and cross-campus collaboration to expand career access, industry engagement, and experiential learning opportunities.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Career Community Management - Oversees the Technology, Engineering, and Applied Sciences Career Community, leading programming that helps students explore industry roles, refine their professional skills, and engage with employers and alumni. Coordinate initiatives such as employer site visits, industry panels, and a funding program to support student organizations hosting career-related events. Community Engagement & Advisory Board Leadership - Leads the Technology, Engineering, and Applied Sciences Career Community Advisory Board, engaging faculty, staff, employers, and student leaders to expand career resources and employer connections. Serves as a key liaison to academic departments, student organizations, and professional associations. Serves as the primary contact for career presentation requests from student organizations and campus stakeholders. Career Advising & Preparation - Provides individual and group career advising that helps students build confidence, navigate the job search or graduate school process, and develop strategies for gaining relevant experience. Guides students in securing field experiences, internships, and research opportunities, as well as preparing for competitive hiring and admissions processes. Expand advising capacity through group advising and targeted student support initiatives. Employer & Alumni Engagement - Establishes partnerships with healthcare institutions, research labs, pharmaceutical companies, and biotechnology firms to create accessible career pathways for students. Oversees employer networking programs, industry panel discussions, and career treks to employer sites, helping students gain direct exposure to professionals in the field. Strategic Leadership & Professional Development - Represents Rutgers in career development initiatives, contribute to national conversations through conference presentations, and support recognition efforts that highlight the university's leadership in career success strategy. Specialty Career Program Oversight - Manages a specialty career program within Career Exploration and Success, such as the Peer Career Educator Program, Industry Consultant Program, Career Closet Program, or another signature initiative, ensuring program growth, student engagement, and integration into CES career strategies. Additional Responsibilities - Participates in meetings, professional development opportunities, and collaborative initiatives that advance the mission of Career Exploration and Success. Contributes to elevating Rutgers University's reputation as a leader in career development by engaging in industry communities and supporting award nominations and recognition efforts.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- A Bachelor's Degree and Five years of relevant experience and/or A Master's Degree and Three years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and related experiences.

- Strong student-focused orientation with experience designing career programs and initiatives.
- Ability to develop programming that helps students navigate job search challenges such as building professional networks, employer research, applying to graduate programs, and securing industry-relevant experiences.
- Strong decision-making skills related to program development, employer engagement, and student success initiatives.
- Experience with public speaking, workshop facilitation, and advising.
- Ability to lead these efforts with confidence and operate autonomously.
- Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and adapt to change in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience within a career services, employer relations, or higher education setting, particularly supporting students in technology, engineering, and applied sciences.
- Experience working in the technology, engineering, and applied sciences sector.
