Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Coordinator of Building Services (Museum Operations) for the J Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Works closely with the Operations Manager to oversee the physical plant of the museum, installation of exhibits, maintenance of the galleries, and non-gallery areas.
  • Monitors the day-to-day maintenance issues, creates work orders, and monitors work done by Rutgers IP&O facilities, and outside contractors.
  • Prepares exhibition spaces and furniture.
  • Works closely with the Exhibitions Coordinator on the installation of exhibits, ions, and works with the Registrars on the packing and transport of art and museum collections.

Mid Range Salary 62252.00
Maximum Salary 74438.00

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.


Certifications/Licenses

  • A valid driver's license would be required for this position; Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands.
  • Required to complete the RU Defense Driving Course.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a museum or gallery setting as a fine art preparator or conservation technician.
  • Demonstrated experience handling paintings, sculpture, works on paper, textiles, and related media. Ability to assess needs and requirements necessary for the installation and moving of artwork.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of design and construction of exhibition furniture.

Equipment Utilized
  • Knowledge of construction materials and demonstrated skills in the use of power tools and machinery.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to be on your feet all day and work in tandem with other department workers in installing sometimes very heavy artwork.
