DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will take on the responsibility of conducting geological and hydrogeological investigations, gathering, analyzing, and interpreting data, and engaging in educational and outreach initiatives for the Groundwater and Environmental Geology Section within the Geologic Mapping Division. Collaborating with your supervisor, you will be involved in the conception, planning, and execution of research that focuses on the state's groundwater and surface water resources. This role also encompasses the development of educational materials and public outreach efforts. You will articulate geological and hydrogeological issues of concern to local governments and state government officials, which may include groundwater and surface water challenges as well as mine subsidence, sinkholes, rock falls, landslides, earthquakes, flooding, unstable man-made fill areas, naturally occurring hazardous elements, and geological engineering issues. Additionally, you will organize and participate in workshops for local governments and the public, creating informative guides that address groundwater and surface water concerns as well as other subsurface and hazardous conditions in Pennsylvania. Your engagement may extend to attending local and county government meetings where geological and hydrological issues are relevant, ensuring that these concerns are adequately addressed. Furthermore, you will prepare educational resources that highlight areas of geological interest, contributing to a greater understanding of the geological landscape and its implications for public safety and environmental stewardship. Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch.
- This position will require travel and overtime as needed.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time on an ad-hoc basis. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Middletown.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year as a Geoscientist (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Possession of an active license as a professional geologist issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
- Two years of professional geology experience, and a bachelor's degree in geology, hydrogeology, geosciences, geophysics, geochemistry, engineering geology, or a closely related field that includes 30 college credits in geology, geophysics, geochemistry, engineering geology, or a closely related field; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirement:
- This Position requires possession of a valid PA non - commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
