Job Summary

The Academic HR Analyst provides comprehensive administrative, personnel, labor relations, and payroll support to the Departments of Cell Biology & Human Anatomy and Physiology within the School of Medicine. This critical role operates both independently and in collaboration with the CAO, drafting final communications for review and signature by the Department Manager and Chair.

The position requires a high level of analytical skill to navigate and apply a wide range of constantly evolving personnel and employment policies across UC Health, UC Davis, and UC Office of the President (UCOP)-each with distinct requirements and systems.

The Academic HR Analyst is responsible for the full spectrum of academic personnel processes, including, but not limited to: recruitment, appointments, merit and promotion reviews, and visa processing. The role demands a strong grasp of academic HR policy, a proactive approach to complex issues, and the ability to support the department's academic mission with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload a license and/or certification if required for the position

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training
  • Intermediate experience in Academic Personnel
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Experience using PC's and MAC computers
  • Skills to analyze options and solve problems independently on assigned projects while utilizing available resources to efficiently complete work as assigned; skills and ability to develop creative solutions to general problems
  • Skills and knowledge to interpret policies and procedures
  • Familiarity with HR/Academic Personnel and/or Employee Relations related issues
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills to interact tactfully with diplomacy and sensitivity with a diverse group of people via all forms of communication
  • Must be flexible and can communicate effectively with team members and work cooperatively with others, as well as participate, contribute ideas, set goals, tolerate confusion, and support and implement decisions
  • Ability to independently coordinate a variety of tasks and functions; work around frequent interruptions; organize workload, and set changing priorities
  • Anticipate and provide schedule changes; work under pressure; and maintain composure under heavy workloads and conflicting priorities in an effective manner
  • Demonstrated written communication skills, using appropriate grammar, spelling, and punctuation to correspond with various individuals and agencies
  • Knowledge and ability to work with a variety of software programs

  • Experience using Kuali, OPTRS, PPS, Ecotime, AggieTravel, Pre-Purchasing, and AggieBuy

Department Overview

The Department of Cell Biology and Human Anatomy occupies ~19,000 square feet in Tupper Hall, in the Health Sciences District of the Davis campus. Fourteen of our department faculty are located in Tupper Hall, with a smaller number of faculty located at the Primate Center and the Shriners Hospital in Sacramento. Research strengths in the department include the biology of vision, developmental biology, neurobiology, cell biology, and stem cells. Co-located in Tupper Hall are the departments of Human Physiology and Membrane Biology, Medical Microbiology, Pharmacology, and a part of the department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine.
