POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of an RPSGT performs polysomnograms/multiple sleep latency tests according to established standards and practices. Clerical duties in support of the above. Monitors and maintains technical equipment in order to ensure safe and accurate use Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent required CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: NM non registered Polysom tech license prior to hire. Eligible for BRPT registry preferred. BLS certification required. Must complete the AASM Accredited Sleep Technologist Education Program (A-STEP) within 12 months of hire. A minimum of 1638 hours of clinical experience that includes on-site polysomnography duties performed as direct patient recording and/or scoring completed within two years of hire. After completion of clinical and A-STEP requirements the candidate is eligible to take the BRPT registry exam. This exam must be taken and passed between year two and three of employment. SKILLS:
EXPERIENCE: No experience required. One-year experience in clinical or research laboratory human polysomnography preferred. Experience in respiratory therapy, EEG or nursing preferred. NATURE OF SUPERVISION: -Responsible to: Manager ENVIRONMENT: - Bloodborne pathogen Extended isolation in a confined area. Possible exposure to contagion and electric shock. Can be stressful; medical emergencies may arise. Routinely uses of toxic substance collation and acetone. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Excellent hand/eye coordination and finger dexterity. Long periods of standing and sitting (up to several hours). Requires close work, good vision (including full color vision). Lift 25 pounds waist high. Reach overhead. Good hearing. Frequent keyboarding/mouse using good ergonomic principles. Must be able to assist in patient transfer. |
