Police Sergeant (NKU Internal Only)

10-hour rotating shifts. Night, weekend, holiday, and overtime work as well as shift flexibility required. Subject to change.

Provide public safety services to the University community in a community-oriented manner and provide first line supervision and leadership to Police Officers engaged in the same.

Perform the full range of duties of a police officer; prepare and conduct patrol shift briefings; serve as a member of the department's management team through proactive and developmentally focused supervision and evaluation of subordinates; review police officer work product; investigate complaints as assigned; participate in specialized training as required; manage specialized department functions (i.e.: range, fleet, armory, etc.) as assigned.

Successful completion of initial probationary employment period; familiarity with NKUPD general orders and operations; written and verbal communication skills sufficient to lead a team of police officers, including reviewing work product. Written test to be administered in early July.

Initial recruitment for position will occur internally. If the process is unsuccessful in placing candidates, external candidates may be considered for participation in a similar process, including written testing, at that time.
