The WVU Nursery School is currently accepting applications for a Pre-K Teacher for the 4-year-old classroom. About the Opportunity This position provides instruction as a Pre-K Teacher (4-year-old classroom) at the WVU Nursery School, modeling developmentally appropriate early education practices. What You'll Do
- Provide instruction as a Pre-K teacher at the WVU Nursery school (3, 4-and 5-year-old 's). Serve as the lead teacher for the 4-year-old classroom and co-teacher of the 3-year-old classroom. Ensure that children are always appropriately supervised.
- Model developmentally appropriate (early childhood) practice for all WVU students placed in practicum experiences within the school.
- Ensure that equipment and facility is clean, well maintained, and safe at all times.
- Design, construct, and implement curriculum units as approved by the Director, including summer programming.
- Complete individualized education plan (IEP) team meetings as necessary.
- Participate in open house, afterschool, and parent meetings as necessary.
- Maintain child academic, health, and parent information files.
- Maintain supplies and materials and requesting supply orders as needed.
- Support the WVU Nursery School Director to ensure compliance with all essential standards and regulations for State Pre-K classrooms. This includes administrative reporting and facilitations of on-site inspections related to WV Department of Health and Human Resource regulations, WV Fire Marshall, County Health Inspector, WVU Environmental Health and Safety, and all regulatory aspects of Policy 2525 (Universal Pre-K) and comply with Monongalia County Early Childhood Administrative personnel directives for environmental check lists, nutrition guides, and curriculum requirements.
- Participate in community and campus outreach activities as necessary.
- Perform other tasks and duties as needed to ensure smooth functioning of the WVU Nursery School including assisting with hygiene of children enrolled.
- Support the Director with WVDHHR licensing tasks and assist with all Monongalia County collaborative environmental rating procedures (Pre-K health and safety checklist, ECERS, PALS, Vision Screening, Speech and Hearing Screening, and Creative Curriculum Studies).
- Create lesson plans for the 4-year-old class and assist with curriculum development in the 3-year-old class.
- Conduct eye screening exams in the 4-year-old classroom.
- Conduct required state and county educational screenings.
- Complete state and county documentation.
- Abide by all procedures related to distribution of snack to children.
- Support tasks to meet accreditation or other institutional requirements at the request of the department, college, or university.
- Attend faculty meetings when requested by the department, college, or university leadership.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in child development, early childhood education, or related field.
- A minimum of six (6) months of experience teaching in a public PreK classroom is preferred.
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices for educating young children and ability to apply that knowledge in pre-school settings or within settings that serve children and families.
- Supervisory and leadership skills.
- Excellent communication skills and ability.
- Organization and data-keeping skills.
Requirements
Licenses/Certifications
- The candidate should hold a valid WV Professional Teaching Certificate endorsed in Early Education (PreK-K), Preschool Education (PreK-PreK), or Preschool Special Needs (PreK-K), or must be eligible to obtain certification by June 30, 2026.
- Once hired, the following are required prior to start date:
- WV CARES Background Check (WVU Title IX requirement and WVDHHR licensing requirement)
- TB test
- Once hired, the following are required within the first 30 days:
- STARS Registry - WVDHHR licensing requirement
- First Aide Training/CPR/AED and Fire Extinguisher Training (WVDHHR and WVU Environmental Health and Safety)
- Food Handler Card (WVDHHR licensing requirement)
- Title XI Training in child abuse and neglect and harassment training (WVU requirement)
- CCRC - Child Abuse and Neglect Training (WVDHHR requirement)
- Once hired into the teaching position, additional Mon County trainings and certifications will be required. Those professional development trainings are required and funded by Monongalia County Schools.
Physical Demands & Physical Coordination
- Ability to lift, carry and/or hold children ranging in size and weight (50 pounds).
