The WVU Cancer Institute at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for an Associate Director of Administration. About the Opportunity Reporting to the Director of the West Virginia University Cancer Institute (WVUCI), the Associate Director, Administration is a critical member of the WVUCI's executive leadership team and will be responsible for all essential operational and administrative functions, whether directly or indirectly, that support an innovative, collaborative, and productive research environment to further the commitment to research. This senior leadership position draws from WVUCI's strategic plan, integral in setting the direction of the WVUCI adhering to NCI Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) guidelines and reviewers' expectations. This position collaborates with WVUCI ADs (e.g., Clinical Research, Basic Research, Population Sciences, Shared Resources, Cancer Research Training and Education Coordination (CRTEC), Community Outreach and Engagement (COE)) as well as members and other key stakeholders to identify strategies for growth across all oncology-related disciplines that is consistent with WVUCI's mission and in alignment with its strategic plan. What You'll Do
- Serves as a vital member of the WVUCI Senior Leadership Team and leads research administration to support the needs of the WVUCI.
- Supports strategic planning, space, financial management, and WVUCI Shared Resources
- Supports operational management.
- Serves as a member and actively participates in the Cancer Institute's Senior Leadership Committee and the Executive Committee.
- Participates in the preparation and management of external review meetings, e.g., Internal Advisory Board, External Advisory Board, ad hoc reviews.
- Serves as a knowledge source on NCI guidelines.
- Administratively manages all aspects of the preparation, submission, and administration of the NCI Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG), and maintenance of all systems to support the needs of the CCSG process.
- Oversees WVUCI research budget and financial management functions including directing the WVUCI's financial staff and managing financial resources for the WVUCI to achieve optimal utilization, including financial planning, budgeting, and philanthropic funds.
- Provides administrative executive leadership to the Membership Program, including the development of policies and adherence to processes for new and continuing membership. Ensures the maintenance of up-to-date data related to membership, including member grants, publications, and related information such as biosketches.
- Leads the developments research tracking and reporting strategies and systems for major grant-funded projects; provides integrated informatics support across all research and clinical trials components of the Cancer Institute.
- Serves as the executive contact with the Institute in human resources, facilities management, and marketing and communications.
- Serves as the key administrative representative with internal offices (e.g., HR, marketing, finance, IT) to achieve the needs of the Institute while adhering to institutional policies and practices.
- Serves as the lead executive representative for the WVUCI with external groups.
- Annual Leadership Goals:
- Support the development and processes of WVUCI Membership Program with processes in place to track and evaluate the success of members (grants, publications, etc)
- Establish the necessary administrative infrastructure necessary to support the early phases of NCI Designation pursuit.
- Establish a financial reporting structure catered to and sufficient for the CCSG application.
- Attend national meetings specific for administration of NCI Designated cancer centers.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Business Administration or related field.
- A minimum of eight (8) years of administration and management experience in an academic setting.
- Five (5) years of experience in administration and management with direct supervisory experience.
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

- Organizational & Analytical Skills - ability to manage complex statistical and financial analysis, presentation, and forecasting.
- Public Speaking - experience in public speaking and presenting research findings.
- Technology & Informatics - knowledge of research informatics, IT infrastructure, and data management.
- Program Development - ability to oversee clinical trials, shared resources, and community engagement programs.
