Job Summary

Phoenix College is seeking a motivated and student-focused Student Services Specialist to join our Recruitment Department. This position plays a key role in supporting prospective and continuing students through the recruitment, admission, and enrollment process. The Student Services Specialist plans, coordinates, and implements recruitment and retention programs and events, while also providing direct support across key student services areas, including admissions, campus tours, placement testing, registration, and retention.

The role involves presenting information to students in both individual and group settings-on and off campus-and maintaining regular communication via in-person meetings, phone calls, and email. Additionally, the Specialist develops and nurtures collaborative relationships with K-12 institutions, community partners, and departments within the Maricopa Community College District to advance the college's mission related to student access, enrollment, and success.

Essential Functions

60% - Plans, coordinates, and implements programs and events focused on recruiting prospective students and retaining continuing students. Assists in all areas of student services, including recruitment, admissions, campus tours, new student orientation, placement testing, academic advisement, registration, and retention. Presents information to students in individual and group settings, both on and off campus. Communicates with students in person, by phone, and via email to assist them in navigating the admissions and enrollment process.

15% - Develops and maintains cooperative relationships with K-12 institutions, Maricopa Community College District, college campus and community partners to advance the mission and goals of Phoenix College as they relate to admissions, enrollment and retention.

15% - Develops assessment methods, collects and analyses data in order to determine program effectiveness; prepares reports.

10% - Training/on-boarding. Provides training to staff inside and outside Recruitment & Retention on:
  • Daily operations
  • Working reports
  • Presentation skills
  • Best practices in recruitment, transition and retention
  • Utilizing relevant equipment and technology such as student id card creation, Google docs & sheets, and online scheduling tool

10% - Assists in training and directing the work of staff, student workers, and temporary employees to meet program goals. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution, and one year full-time of student services or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs.

OR

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications

A. Bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution
B. Two (2) or more years of customer service experience
C. Experience using customer relations management software or student information systems software
D. Experience using computer software applications such as MS Office Suite, Google Suite or similar software that includes word processing, spreadsheet software, database software, presentation software and basic desktop publishing software
E. Experience developing and delivering group presentations to small (2 - 50ppl) and large (50+ ppl) groups
F. Knowledge of the philosophy and principles of a Learning College as demonstrated in the cover letter.

  • Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate's own expense
  • May require to travel within MCCCD locations and within Maricopa County
  • Some evenings or weekends required
