Job Description/Tasks/Responsibilities
- Designs, interprets, and develops technical documents. Gathers information about project and product data, objectives, needs, objectives, functions, features and requirements. Performs writing tasks for technical documents such as remedial action reports, work plans, user manuals, installation manuals, help documents, procedures and tutorials. Works with integrated team of technical writers, health physicists, and chemists to achieve project goals.
- Designs, develops and maintains technical documentation as part of the project requirements.
- Interacts with health physicists, scientists, engineers, and/or designers to understand and communicate product limitations or project tasks.
- Determines the need for revisions, corrections or changes to previously written reports or procedures. Edits material for structure, completeness, accuracy, organizational consistency, formatting and appropriateness of content.
- Develops and revises post-remedial action reports, closeout reports, operating procedures, maintenance procedures, emergency operating procedures, start-up and test procedures, alarm response and formats supporting appendices.
- Initiates job hazard analysis development as required.
- Works directly with report/procedure authors/requestors to review and respond to comments from internal and external clients.
- Applies project knowledge and/or conducts research through discussions and search of historical databases with technical specialists or other resources when appropriate.
- May lead and guide the work of other technical writers.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements/Skills
- Ability to work with engineers, scientists, and operations staff
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Intermediate proficiency in various software programs used in the development of PRARs and CCORs, such as Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat
- Demonstrated accuracy, attention to detail, consistency and clarity in conformance with required formats and standards
- Demonstrated expertise with a variety of technical writing tasks, ranging from editing prepared text to drafting original reports
- Ability to understand complex information and communicate it in written form (e.g., memos, reports, brochures, etc.) for a variety of audiences
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
- Some familiarity with production scheduling and related processes
Minimum Education, Experience and Certification Requirements |
Education
- Bachelor's degree required or equivalent experience in Health Physics, Environmental Science, or a related technical discipline

Certifications
|
Required Experience
- Minimum 10 years of experience in technical writing
- Minimum 5 years of experience in radiological remediation
|
Preferred Experience
- Experience with the Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program
- 1 year experience at a DOD remediation job site
