About Rivian

Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.

As a company, we constantly challenge what's possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.

Role Summary

Data is absolutely fundamental to building Rivian's advanced autonomy features. It's the
backbone of every aspect of autonomous systems, from perception to decision making and
continuous improvements. In this role, you will lead the systems engineering, architecture
design and function development of data logging infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Strategize data logging campaigns to meticulously plan what data to collect, how to
collect it, and why, to precisely meet the demands of various autonomy use cases
    throughout the development cycle.
  • Architect in-vehicle and cloud solutions to be deployed to achieve requirements for
in-vehicle logging, storage and upload, data management and cloud integration.
  • Develop comprehensive requirements, test cases and plans to ensure functionality and
    robustness of data logging framework.
  • Collaborate with development teams such as software infrastructure, cloud, telematics
for end-to-end development, integration and testing of above solutions.
  • Work closely with the Privacy team to ensure that the data is collected in accordance
with defined policies, and data ownership, access, sharing and retention requirements
    are met.
  • Define metrics for evaluation of the framework and collaborate with data analytics and
cloud teams to deploy the required infrastructure/methods/dashboards.
  • Work across development, triage, integration, and test teams to identify, root cause, and
resolve or mitigate observed issues. Lead process improvements to achieve
    First-Time-Right design.
  • Coordinate with program teams on feasibility, development status, risks, limitations to
effectively set up and meet program schedules.
  • Participate and represent the autonomy team in the architecture and design reviews,
feasibility studies, timeline reviews, FMEAs and impact analysis hosted by various
    stakeholders.
  • Execute cross functional discussions by fostering consensus, even during challenging
    technical discussions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechatronics, Computer
Science, Robotics or a related field.
  • 7+ years (Bachelor's)/5+ years (Master's) of professional experience in systems
    engineering or software development.
  • Track record of deploying software in production environments, carrying one or more of
    listed responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of Autonomous systems fundamentals such as data characteristics of
different sensor modalities and data needs for perception, localization, decision making
and planning and large scale ML/DL models.
  • Strong problem solving skills in a highly cross functional and fast paced environment.
Basic to moderate programming skills (C/C++, Python). Ability to understand and
    navigate software code is required.
  • Excellent team player with strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Preferred - Experience of developing or using smart data logging techniques such as
trigger-based logging, data compression methods, remote data pull etc.
  • Preferred - Familiarity with data protection regulations such as GDPR (General Data
Protection Regulation) or CCPA/CPRA (California Consumer Privacy Act/California
    Privacy Rights Act)
