Job Description

Purchasing Coordinator

Normally Reports to: Supply Chain Manager

Position Location: Houston, TX (Onsite)

Job Objective: Responsible for South region inventory replenishment functions of nonfuel inventoried items satisfying the needs of the customer in an efficient, timely and courteous manner while maintaining optimal fill rates and days in inventory.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: In addition to the essential job functions described below, all associates will perform duties requested by management. Assigned responsibilities and duties may vary based upon location size and operation.



  • Perform inventory replenishment and place special orders for regional warehouses.
  • Ensure timely input of purchase orders with proper product, price, freight and plant
  • Place replenishment orders with vendors as needed
  • Report forecast issues to purchasing lead for review
  • Leverage inventory across network for maximum usage of current inventory
  • Coordinate transportation needs for intercompany and vendor purchase orders with logistics
  • Manage non-stock and obsolete inventory out of system before end of life date
  • Source special orders and expedite
  • Resolve purchase order pricing discrepancies
  • Resolve vendor service issues as needed
  • Manage inventory levels within region then company
  • Support purchasing lead and region with special request
  • Submit new material request forms to purchasing lead
  • Review open purchase orders weekly
  • Develop corrective action plans for customer back orders.
  • Ensure that all master cost files are current
  • Ensure that defective inventory and returns are dealt with expeditiously.



Additional Responsibilities:



  • Represent the company in a professional manner at all times ensuring quality customer service
  • Abide by all policies, rules, and regulations of the company including all applicable safety rules, regulations and procedures
  • Support corporate programs, goals, and initiatives of the company
  • Complete product technical training annually
  • Assist in conducting physical inventories
  • May require some travel within region



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Familiarity with industry and commonly used materials is strongly preferred
  • Purchasing experience strongly preferred
  • SAP knowledge and experience strongly preferred
  • Communication skills
  • Organizational skills
  • Excellent problem solver
  • Ability to work with and analyze numbers
  • Ability to handle stress successfully
  • Computer knowledge including strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Interpersonal communication
  • ERP/Inventory Management systems such as DM2/Sage/Inventory Advisor
