Field Services Technician I

Summary

Responsible for providing entry level reading and evaluation of customers' water and electricity use for the City of Garland.

Pay Range: Starting at $15 (Depending on qualifications and experience)

Work Schedule: (100% Onsite) Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Utilize various methods to accurately/efficiently record electric and water meters readings daily.

  • Operate vehicles to travel to and from assigned meter reading routes.

  • Maintain accurate records of readings and other data collected.

  • Operate computers for drive by meter data collection.

  • Communicate all repairs, leaks, service problems and/or general information to office dispatchers, as needed.

  • Assist with the installation/repair of radio meters.

  • Assist with field service orders.

  • May train new hires on meter reading and equipment usage.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED

  • No experience necessary (On the job training)

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

Education/ Experience

  • 1 year experience in public utilities

  • Experience with reading software, mobile units and handhelds

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of electric/water meter(s) reading

  • Basic knowledge of city street and address systems

  • Basic knowledge of public contact techniques and principles

  • Ability to provide excellent customer service

  • Ability to work multiple assignments

  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

  • Ability to work in a team environment

Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid Class C Texas driver's license
