Salary Range: $70,100 - $100,000 A variety of important factors are reviewed by HR when considering salary, including job duties, the applicant's education and experience, all relevant internal equity considerations, department budget, and funding source.
Position Summary Under the direction of the Director of Operations & Maintenance, The Associate Director of Life Safety and Compliance is responsible for maintaining compliance with the Universities Life Safety and Elevator Systems and to implement fire preventions and perform fire investigations for Temple University Main Campus, Ambler, Temple University Center City and Podiatric. Knowledge of OSHA Standards to liaise with EHRS in compliance and disposal of asbestos containing materials. Provides expertise to Temple University clients in support of the Universities fire protection and prevention operations and attends to various technical duties. Performs a variety of administrative, technical and supervisory work related to fire inspection and prevention such as; schedules, supervises and conducts inspections of existing structures, construction and renovation sites for compliance with fire codes; resolves compliance problems within scope of knowledge and authority; reviews construction plans; and conducts fire drills. Maintains a schedule of all Life Safety and Elevator inspections and certifications in accordance with city, state and federal agencies. Work closely with Project Delivery Group (PDG) Director of Regulatory Compliance and will directly supervise the Main Campus Assistant Fire Marshal, Fire Alarm & Security Manager, and Life Safety Project Manager. Regular contact with representatives of local, state and federal agencies, including the City of Philadelphia, the PA Department of Labor & Industry and the public to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements. Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Details * Must have a valid driver's license.
Required Education and Experience * Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience in Fire Science, Fire Inspection and Investigation, or Fire Protection Engineering. * Minimum of five (5) years related experience as a Building and/or Fire Code Enforcement Official. * Previous experience in public fire education, fire cause determination, fire service instruction, fire code enforcement, emergency response, or emergency preparedness training. * Successful completion of updated Building and/or Fire Code/Fire Inspection classes within the last three (3) years. * Must have International Code Council Fire Inspector II certification or attain same within nine (9) months of hire or maintain current ICC certifications (6) as building inspector. * Knowledge of OSHA Standards would be a plus. * An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Required Skills and Abilities * Must have working knowledge of the reasons and intent of building & fire code requirements as well as a working knowledge of building construction and fire protection systems. * Must have excellent reasoning and critical thinking skills with an ability to generate appropriate solutions. * Must have excellent written communication skills and the ability to write clear and concise memos, reports and other documentation and excellent listening and oral communication * Ability to work independently and organize many projects simultaneously and prioritize work. * Must be proficient in the use of a working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel and Word. * Ability to work a flexible schedule, as needed, to allow for early morning, evening or weekend appointments, training, fire drills or meetings. * Must be able to analyze situations and adopt a quick, effective and reasonable course of action, especially during stressful conditions and/or events. * Ability to conduct occupancy inspections, annual hazard inspections, fire flow tests, and fire protection system tests as necessary. * Knowledge of NFPA codes, International Fire code, International Building codes and County codes relating to fire and elevator regulations.
