Responsible for supporting customer projects, including, but not limited to customer interaction, concepting and engineering a detailed design along with required test parameters to meet the customer desired design requirement and timeline. Works cross-functionally with marketing, manufacturing and customers to efficiently produce high quality molded products with a focus on manufacturability as well as the facilitation of estimating, customer service, overall planning, resource coordination, scheduling, purchasing, and manufacturing functions, as they relate to project completion.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Engineers/designs foam cushioning and shock-isolated metal structures used in specialized reusable shipping containers to protect high value customer equipment during transport.
  • Works directly with customers and suppliers, New Product Development, Manufacturing Engineering, Machine and Mold Shops, Test Lab, including Case Center staff, and Production personnel, and other support staff to identify special requirements or specifications, and steer projects accordingly.
  • Recognizes project scope and understands manufacturing capabilities and determines proper course of action to achieve customer satisfaction.
  • Facilitates smooth transition between project/product trials to factory startup, supporting material purchasing and manufacturing scheduling/planning teams as needed.
  • Prepares status reports as required and other project status deliverables to internal and external customers - and facilitates all engineering-related meetings.
  • Assists in development and growth of overall business by supporting and advising on capital projects including increased manufacturing capacity, new machinery, and novel technologies.
  • Makes recommendations and justifications for new production processes and equipment.
  • Identifies novel solutions that warrant research and patent ability.
  • Increases the ability of the engineering community by actively sharing knowledge and mentorship.
  • Assists in continual development of Rotational Molding business.
  • Ensures maintenance and completeness of project folders as related to ISO requirements.
  • Follows company policies and practices as outlined in the Employee Handbook and/or applicable employment agreement. Follows safety guidelines and procedures in accordance to the job.
  • Performs additional duties as required or directed.



JOB REQUIREMENTS



  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Plastics Engineering or minimum of 7 years' on-the-job experience in Rotational Molding plastic part design and/or processing.
  • Must be eligible to receive information controlled under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
  • Background in Lean/Six Sigma, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Must be fluent in modeling and Material Requirement Planning (MRP). Solid Edge/SAP preferred.
  • Moderate application skills and knowledge of plastic processing.
  • Adequate writing and verbal communication/presentation skills.
  • Must have good time and project management skills.
  • Must be able to work with minimal direction.

  • Must be able to operate in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Must be able to travel, nationally and internationally, as necessary.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS



  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be occasionally required to execute standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. stand, walk, sit, use hands/fingers).
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be occasionally required to execute non-standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch).
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • This position requires repetitive hand/wrist activities.
