The Custodial Supervisor provides support services to assist with a safe, clean and comfortable environment for the Law Center community. They are responsible for direct supervision of custodial staff in maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of buildings, offices, classrooms, apartments, fitness center, restrooms, auditorium, furnishings, and equipment as well as building entrances both interior and exterior. As well, they are the primary trainer for new employees and ensures the staff follow proper University and Department policies and protocols; and they interact with other department managers, staff, student, faculty and directors. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Train new and existing staff members, creating work orders for janitorial service requests.
  • Assist with the hiring of new custodial staff, ensuring custodial services meets the needs of the department, the University, and established custodial guidelines.
  • Work during school closures and inclement weather as assigned by supervisor, working during university emergencies as emergency employees will be required to.
  • Advise the immediate supervisor on the condition of buildings by conducting regular inspections, performing daily custodial services as needed.
  • Compile with all regulatory codes and regulations related to custodial services.
  • Assist with inventory records of equipment and supplies, organizing storage rooms and making recommendations of supplies and equipment needed.


Work Interactions

Reporting directly to the Custodial Manager, the Custodial Supervisor is considered the interim Manager during the absence of the Custodial Manager; as well, they may report to another manager as assigned by the Director of Facilities Management.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalency
  • At least 4 years of experience as a supervisor in custodial services
  • Knowledge in cleaning, sustainability, and disinfecting procedures
  • Familiarity with APPA cleaning standards, as well CDC guidelines for infectious disease cleaning related to Covid-19
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and to climb ladders
  • Availability and willingness to be flexible to accommodate emergency situations such as staffing shortages and snow removal


Emergency Designation
The Custodian is designated as an "emergency employee," which requires the incumbent report to work during inclement weather at the regularly scheduled time regardless of whether the University is closed, opening late or closing early.

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$41,926.00 - $65,090.00

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
