Overview

Put your experience in intellectual property and commercial licensing to work joining our busy IP team onsite in providing legal counsel and support incopyright, trademark, and other key IP law areas. This is a challenging opportunity to provide guidance on a global basis in the IP practice area affecting Esri's business activities.

Responsibilities



  • Provide legal counsel, guidance, and support, primarily in the areas of copyright and trademark law and various transactional IP licensing and permission arrangements and secondarily in the other areas of intellectual property law (such as patents, trade secrets, know-how, open source licensing, data rights, and more)
  • Assist technical and business teams, and intra-Contracts and Legal Department colleagues with copyright and trademark-related issues
  • Develop, draft, review, and negotiate contractual/licensing terms and conditionsfor software and data licensing with end users, international distributors, domestic business partners, and other strategic business relationships
  • Provide copyright and trademark review of Esri software, data, services, documentation, Esri Press books, Esri Training courses, collateral marketing materials, video content, Web pages, and third-party requests for permission to use Esri copyrighted works
  • Handle OSS/FOSS licensing reviews and third-party acknowledgements for software and data
  • Assist with IP due diligence review and analysis for M&A and investment transactions
  • Understanding of how artificial intelligence impacts or dovetails with IP Rights
  • Experience with how antitrust/competition, export control, and M&A laws dovetail with IP Rights
  • Familiarity with entertainment, media, and music law and licensing
  • Familiarity with antitrust, export control, M&A, and managing litigation support efforts
  • Managing IP support efforts with both outside IP transactional and litigation counsel


Requirements



  • 5+ years of relevant legal experience in a private practice law firm or in-house counsel position
  • Admittance and licensed in good standing before California State Bar or other state bar and registered to practice before all levels of courts
  • Critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills as well as the ability to manage multiple projects with various clients at the same time
  • Solid business acumen and judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to isolate issues for escalation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for working with all levels of management and staff in a variety of Esri intra-departments and with end users, international distributors, domestic business partners, other strategic business relationships, and third-party vendors and suppliers
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this posting. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the US
  • Degree in Business/Marketing, Computer Science, or other relevant degrees
  • JD or LLM from an ABA accredited law school

$124,800 $187,200 USD
