The Loudoun County Health Department invites you to join our dynamic WIC team as a Nutritionist/Breastfeeding Coordinator. In this vital role, you will apply your expertise as a Registered Dietitian to provide comprehensive nutrition services, helping to shape healthier futures for families in the County's Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Supplemental Food Program.
In this role, you will: * Coordinate the Breastfeeding Program for the Loudoun Health District. * Analyze participant diets and calculate nutritional adequacy based on Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA). * Assess client nutritional needs according to their lifecycle stage and health status, tailoring WIC food packages and providing individualized nutrition counseling. * Review and interpret medical/nutritional histories and lab results. * Deliver educational training and outreach on nutrition and breastfeeding to individuals and community groups. * Conduct high-risk nutrition counseling for clients with specific medical conditions, such as obesity, gestational issues, and anemia. * Lead community education and outreach efforts to increase awareness of program benefits, utilizing strategic methods and venues to effectively share information.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: * Interviewing clients to assess symptoms and identify nutritional deficiencies. * Performing lab tests, taking physical measurements, and evaluating medical records and lab results. * Process special formula and concentrated formula requests, nutritionals and formula needed for tube feeding. * Conducting WIC certifications and providing individualized nutrition counseling. * Calculating the nutritional adequacy of meals based on Recommended Daily Allowances (RDAs). * Developing and presenting both normal and therapeutic diets tailored to client needs. * Planning and delivering individual and group nutrition education sessions on topics such as healthy eating, pregnancy nutrition, weight control, and breastfeeding. * Promoting breastfeeding and certifying pregnant women at intake appointments. * Loaning breast pumps and addressing breastfeeding-related questions and concerns. * Supervising and supporting Breastfeeding Peer Counselors. * Providing guidance on USDA food supplement programs. * Writing reports, developing educational materials, maintaining case files and records, and ensuring program compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. * Managing equipment and supply inventory, including issuing supplemental foods such as infant formula. * Participating in planning, staff meetings, in-service training, and other departmental activities. * Attending professional development and continuing education opportunities. * Performing additional duties assigned to support WIC and departmental goals.

Minimum Qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree in nutrition, dietetics, or a related field and satisfactory completion of a program of supervised clinical experience approved by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics; or related qualification requirements as defined by the Code of Virginia Chapter 27.1 of Title 54.1 Dietitians and Nutritionist; one year of relevant experience which includes lactation counseling.
Preferred: * Bilingual ability in English and Spanish preferred.

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

* Criminal background check, fingerprinting, and Child Protective Services (CPS) check required. * Required to hold and maintain active registration as a Dietitian, as defined by VA code. Must obtain this active registration within six (6) months of the hire date. * Complete specialized training in lactation management and care - International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) (preferred) or 45-hour Lactation Education Accreditation and Approval Review Committee (LEAARC)-approved training in lactation management within 6 months of employment. * Meet Certified Professional Authority (CPA) and Designated Breastfeeding Expert (DBE) qualifications within first 12 months of employment. * Meet WIC education and continuing education requirements. * TB test within 10 days of hire. * Hold or obtain First Aid/CPR certifications at hire or within four (4) months of hire. * Vaccination or proof of vaccination as required for Health Care Personnel by the Virginia Department of Health. * Obtain any Department-required certifications within established time frames of hire.
