Director, Discovery & Digital Pathology

Inotiv is seeking a veterinary pathologist to serve as Director of Discovery and Digital Pathology within our Investigative and Molecular Pathology Department in the Division of Discovery & Translational Sciences. This individual will oversee a skilled group of discovery pathologists and imaging scientists who perform chromogenic and fluorescent whole slide imaging and image analysis using latest imaging techniques, working closely with our Pharmacology and Translational Platforms Departments. This individual will be responsible for identifying and developing new imaging techniques and technologies, including AI-driven modalities, with a mission to remain contemporary in approach methodology and a vision for Inotiv to lead the advance of the science and broaden adoption in Discovery.

This position is an onsite position located at our Boulder, CO site.

Responsibilities

  • Management and oversight of Discovery Pathology consisting of four board-certified veterinary anatomic pathologists and a Digital Pathology group consisting of one digital pathology manager, two imaging scientists, four imaging analysts, and two research associates.

  • Lead the preclinical discovery and digital pathology operation by providing pathology expertise for conducted studies and supervising the pathology and image analysis teams.

  • Create and drive department strategic vision and align with company goals and mission.

  • Build cross-departmental relationships and identify key stakeholders in each group to drive collaboration and process improvement.

  • Collaboration and interaction between Inotiv's Discovery Pathology group, histology core, and immunohistochemistry core on internal and external scanning and image analysis projects.

  • Provide pathology expertise for the generation and review of protocols, statements of work (SOWs), standard operating procedures (SOPs), and process workflows.

  • Ensure pathology and digital pathology analyses, data composition, quality control, and reporting are conducted in accordance with study protocols, SOWs, SOPs, and best practice. Supervise these activities within pathology and image analysis teams.

  • Present pathology and digital pathology capabilities to clients and develop marketing materials to advertise and highlight capabilities for use by study directors and business development teams.

  • Collaborate and/or consult with clients, consultants, study directors, study toxicologists, study pathologists, QC/QA and regulatory officials to ensure study integrity.

  • Provide pathology expertise to assess quality and precision of tissue sectioning, histochemical staining, and immunohistochemical staining.

  • Oversee the development of image analysis algorithms, data, and reports.

  • Identify internal and external opportunities to apply imaging or analysis expertise and proactively pursue those collaboration opportunities.

  • Identifying and developing new modalities and novel techniques to implement and advance Inotiv's digital pathology capabilities.

  • Help to advance imaging-based molecular pathology and -omics technologies (e.g. spatial transcriptomics).

  • Identify professional growth opportunities and/or opportunities to interact with others in drug development digital pathology and champion subject matter expert involvement.

  • Knowledge of business practices and departmental budgeting.

  • Client communication and client-facing interactions with sponsors to develop experimental. design, implementation, and quoting of external and internal projects.

  • Other tasks as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in Digital pathology (whole slide imaging, image analysis)

  • 3-5 years of experience in Drug development

  • 3-5 years of experience in people management

  • DVM/VMD, PhD, Board certification (anatomic) with the American College of Veterinary Pathologists

  • Understanding common and emerging research practices within and outside of histopathology, including in vivo, in vitro, ex vivo, and new approach methodologies and their relationship to digital pathology and image analysis

Pay range is $188,000 to $230,000. All job offers will be based on a candidate's skills and prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, as well as internal equity and market data.

*This position could be offered at different levels for candidates who qualify with a combination of advanced levels of education and/or years of experience. The salary range will adjust along with the level of the role to match the person's relevant experience and/or education level.
