Job Summary

Milwaukee Public Schools seeks exceptional Instructional Coach: Wold Language and Language Immersion candidates who are highly qualified and knowledgeable to join our community of teachers, learners, and leaders.

A Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) Instructional Coach for World Languages (WL) and Language Immersion is a non-evaluative, non-supervisory teacher position who collaborates with the district WL and Language Immersion Curriculum Specialist to support program implementation and enhance language acquisition. Assigned at the district level, the coach provides targeted services to schools and educators to strengthen instructional practices and improve student outcomes in WL and Language Immersion programs.

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Valid World Language teaching license issued by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
  • Master's degree or National Board Certification preferred.

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience in World Language or Language Immersion as a fully licensed teacher.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing lessons and instructional units in WL or Language Immersion preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of second language acquisition theory and pedagogy preferred.
  • Proven experience supporting the professional development of adult learners with diverse needs preferred.

Essential Functions:

  • Designs and delivers professional development at both the district and school levels aligned to the Wisconsin Standards for World Language and best practices in Language Immersion.
  • Models and supports effective vocabulary acquisition strategies, including interdisciplinary approaches aligned with content area frameworks.
  • Facilitates professional dialogue among WL and Language Immersion teachers focused on lesson planning and instructional strategies for language learners.
  • Supports teachers in using multiple sources of data (e.g., pre- and post-assessments) to determine instructional needs at the school and classroom levels.
  • Provides instructional feedback and recommendations based on classroom evidence.
  • Communicates the goals and structure of the WL and Language Immersion programs clearly to stakeholders.
  • Continuously builds expertise in language instruction and assessment practices to support WL and Language Immersion teachers.
  • Attends and conducts professional development which may occasionally occur outside of the regular work schedule.
  • Develops guidance and train teachers on how to access, interpret, and use online instructional resources.
  • Models effective use of district-adopted and approved curricular materials.
  • Collaborates in the revision of district curriculum to improve student learning outcomes in WL and Language Immersion programs.
  • Demonstrates a consistent, positive, and collaborative disposition.
  • Actively supports the MPS Strategic Plan.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

This position is on the 2F - 200-day calendar.
