At Journeyman level, carpenters perform tasks such as wall erection, door and frame installation and wood product fabrication including solid surface fabrication and installation. Carpenters are also responsible for drop ceiling repairs, floors, door hardware, roof leaks and emergency disaster response. The work involves reading and interpreting plans, sketches and shop drawings. Carpenters are also familiar with working in an environment that requires strict infection prevention measures. Additionally, they conduct preventative maintenance on critical and/or life safety equipment annually, monthly, and weekly, as well as other duties assigned by a supervisor to ensure the hospital functions at the highest level.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
- Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
- Must possess a certificate of completion from a recognized union apprenticeship program, University apprenticeship program, accredited trade school OR have the equivalent amount of experience and training comparable to a journey level craftsperson in Carpentry as evaluated by department leadership.
- Experience using shop equipment, suspended ceilings, commercial construction technicians, metal/wood/structural framing.
- Experience conducting preventative maintenance.
- Experience ordering material.
- Experience scheduling work in accordance with customer requests.
- Must have the skills and the ability to read and interpret sketches, drawings and blueprints.
- Must know and be able to read correct terminology of building trades.
- Must have the administrative ability to keep accurate record accounts of labor time and material costs.
- Must have the skill to cut, shape and assemble wood, composition and/or plastics.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5 year's experience at journeyman level
- Experience working in a Health Care Facility
- Must have skills, knowledge and ability to perform all functions of cabinetry and carpentry trades.
- Must have skill and knowledge in the installation of seismic restraints/anchoring.
- Incumbent must have physical stamina to work in inclement weather (hot/cold), confined spaces, from ladders, scaffolds, roofs, etc.
- Must be able to see well enough to read written work instructions, technical manuals, drawings, sketches, etc.
- Must speak well enough to communicate with co-workers, peers, customers and managers.
- Ability to learn and observe the safety policies and guidelines set up by the department.
- Identify self and unit when answering/using the phone; deliver messages, and/or refer phone calls to appropriate person; forward all information as required. Handle telephone information requests with courtesy, accuracy and respect for patient confidentiality.

Department Overview
The Plant Operations & Maintenance (PO&M) Department is a 24 hour, seven day a week operation responsible for the operation, repair and maintenance of buildings, systems, and grounds at the UC Davis Health System that includes 148 acres and structures that total 4 million GMSF. Plant Operations & Maintenance is one of the largest operations and maintenance support providers to clinical, administrative, research, SOM and SON departments throughout the Health System. UC Davis Health System is one of several UC campuses that have their own cogeneration, central power plants. Cogeneration (Combined Heat and Power or CHP) is the simultaneous production of electricity and heat, both of which are used throughout the Medical Center Campus and is supported by Plant Operations & Maintenance 24x7x365.
