The Progressive Cardiac Care Unit at The Johns Hopkins Hospital is a 32-bed unit, consisting of 20 telemetry, and 12 ICU step-down beds. The unit cares for highly acute cardiac medicine patients with diagnoses such as acute MI, cardiomyopathy, dysrhythmia, and heart failure. Treatments are primarily medical, but frequently include intervention in the Cardiac Cath & Electrophysiology lab, including stent placement, ablation, PPM/AICD implantation, or TAVR. Due to the chronicity of cardiac disease, staff have the opportunity to form strong positive relationships due to the extended stays of many patients and their families. This unit is resourced a full-time "monitor watch" tech to assist in early detection of EKG changes and to alert staff of lethal rhythms. Staff on the floor will gain experience with vasoactive drip titration, Swann-Ganz catheters, LVADs, phlebotomy & IV insertion, ACLS, and palliative care. Nurse:Patient ratios are 1:3 in IMC and 1:4 in tele.

PRN RN requirements:




  • At least 1 year recent RN progressive telemetry acute care experience
  • Ability to work at least 2 12-hour shifts in 6-week schedule - ability to rotate to needs of the unit including weekends
