Mental Health Counselor- New Beginnings Program

The range for this position is $51-$64K and is based out of our corporate office in downtown Indianapolis.

The New Beginnings Mental Health Counseling Program is a service provided for voluntary participants and Goodwill employees within the New Beginnings program who present with low to intermediate levels of need. The New Beginnings Mental Health Counselor counsels individuals and groups to promote optimum mental health and improve the availability of and access to mental health resources for New Beginnings employees and participants.

Example Duties and Activities

  • Provides counsel, singularly and within group sessions, to assist in overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life, and making positive behavioral changes.

  • Facilitates preventive mental wellness classes and workshops to support employees in caring for themselves and or supporting their employees.

  • Collects and evaluates information through interviews, observation, and clinical data to develop and implement treatment plans based on clinical experience and knowledge.

  • Guides individuals in developing skills and strategies to deal with mental health concerns. Creates a safe space that encourages individuals to express their feelings and discuss what is happening in their lives to help them develop insight into themselves and their relationships.

  • Collaborates with internal and external partners on intervention plans and empowers employees to take control of their health and well-being.

  • Creates and maintains an up-to-date client profile to track the individual's treatment process effectively.

  • Participates and collaborates in all assigned meetings.

  • Completes all necessary and assigned clinical records and documents within assigned time frames, maintains confidentiality of records related to services provided, and complies with federal, state, local, and clinical program/facility standards.

Required Competencies

  • Degree and Credential Requirements - Master's degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or related field and LMHCA (Licensed Mental Health Counselor) licensure or willingness to obtain. Will consider those provisionally licensed.

  • Communication Skills - Articulates thoughts and expresses ideas effectively using oral, written, visual, and non-verbal communication skills, as well as listening skills to comprehend customers' needs. Delivers information in person, in writing, and in a digital world.

  • Emotional Intelligence - Recognizes one's own emotions and those of others, uses emotional information to open-mindedly guide thinking and behavior, discerns between different feelings and labels them appropriately, and adjusts emotions to adapt to environments. Is empathetic and compassionate, and maintains a nonjudgemental perspective in difficult situations.

  • Consultative - Focuses on building relationships that are needs-based with customers or prospects, understanding their problems, and developing solutions to their challenges through open-ended questions and active listening. Creates and maintains a safe environment for open discussions. Uses judgment and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. Is highly creative and innovative in delivering solutions.

  • Technical Knowledge - Has working knowledge of G Suite and MS Office and is open to acquiring new computer skills.

  • Data Review and Reporting - Collects, interprets, and examines data to identify root causes, evaluate actions, and continuously improve processes to achieve program goals.

  • Continuous Learning - Stays current on legal mandates related to the state/local adult and child protective services. Has a thirst for knowledge and applies it appropriately. Driven to find answers through research and collaboration.

Preferred Competencies

  • Meeting Facilitation - Adept at scheduling, coordinating, and managing productive meetings/workshops of large and small groups; professionally manages conflict and commitment; ensures follow-through of participants.

Other Requirements

  • Is willing to conduct local travel within the territory of GCSI.

  • Background Screening - All candidates must pass a pre-employment background check. Must have a valid driver's license, up-to-date auto insurance, and a good driving record.
