Position Announcement

The Assistant Vice President and Dean of Students supervises Directors of Testing Services, Disability Resource Center, Booth Wellness Center, Veteran & Military Services, Student Resource Center, and collaborates with other institutional Deans and Administrators to promote and provide student support and services to strengthen campus connections, promote student success and increase retention; Makes budget recommendations to the Vice President of Student Affairs, and serves as a member of the Divisional Executive Team; Oversees and ensures proper administration of all facets of the Student Conduct process; Focuses on creating strong student engagement with the institution by the completion of a student's first year; represents the university on multiple local and state boards. Responsibilities

  • Assist the Vice President for Student Affairs in providing leadership, supervision, and strategic direction for the departments of Testing Services, Disability Resource Center, Booth Wellness Center, Veteran & Military Services, and the Student Resource Center.
  • Manage and oversee the student conduct process as the University's chief student discipline officer.
  • Collaborate with students, faculty, administration, campus security, and legal counsel to facilitate the resolution of student conflicts, complaints, and grievances.
  • Support student engagement and leadership development through student government, clubs and organizations, service opportunities, and campus involvement initiatives.
  • Represent Student Affairs at major campus events including Trailblazer Awards, Orientation, Trailblazer Connections, New Student Orientation, and other university-wide programs.
  • Ensure institutional compliance with federal and state regulations related to student conduct, mental health, campus safety, and other student-focused mandates.
  • Provide budget recommendations to the Vice President for departments within the Student Affairs portfolio.
  • Represent the University on community and state boards and councils, including the Utah Dean of Students (UDOS) Council and local civic organizations.
  • Stay up-to-date on legislation and legal trends impacting student affairs, student rights, and campus safety.
  • Serve as a foundational member of the CARE, CAAT, and TAT Teams, responding to students of concern and promoting student safety and wellbeing.
  • Contribute to key university committees, providing administrative insight and advocating the student perspective, including: strategic planning, "active learning. active life.", data governance, and reinstatement review, etc.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies related to student conduct, wellbeing, and campus safety.
  • Maintain regular, meaningful engagement with student leaders, including the Student Body President, Ambassador President, Student Advisory Board, and other leadership organizations.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for student emergencies and provide faculty and staff training on response protocols and student support procedures for disruptive behavior, and student death situations.
  • Advise faculty, staff, and students on matters related to free speech, political demonstrations, and peaceful assembly, serving as the university's subject matter expert in these areas.
  • Collaborate with Academic Affairs and Enrollment Management to support student retention, persistence, and success initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Counseling, Higher Education, Educational Administration, Leadership, or closely related field required; Ph.D., Ed.D., or other terminal degree in a similar field preferred.
  • A minimum five years' direct experience in higher education student affairs and/or student conduct, with progressively increasing levels of responsibility, required.
  • Substantial knowledge of university administrative practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Skills in initiating, directing, managing, and performing activities that fully impact a department, the division, and the university.
  • Well-developed communication, organization, budget management, and planning skills required.
  • Experience with Banner, Maxient, Navigate, and similar software platforms preferred.
  • Strong public speaking, interpersonal, motivation, and presentation skills required.
  • Experience with conflict resolution, mediation, and de-escalation strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience and familiarity with Housing and Residence Life preferred.
  • Understanding of Student Conduct Processes and a Code of Conduct required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community leaders.

Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time overtime-exempt staff position. Annual salary of $105,000+ depending on qualifications and experience. Desired start date of Fall Semester 2025.
