The Team Leader is responsible for guiding and supporting an assigned group of hourly employees to achieve department goals and exceed customer expectations. They will adhere production schedules and ensure quality and on-time delivery, while maintaining a safe work environment. Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on leadership through on-going coaching and training of employees in assigned work group
- Coach and teach team members to identify Value Added (VA) and Non-Value Added (NVA) activities in process and set goals to eliminate NVA activities
- Assist in the initial and ongoing training of all new employees assigned to their shift that enter the operations area. Training will include but is not limited to: maintaining and operating machines, understanding the daily priorities, ensuring standard work and correct procedures are followed to produce quality parts, completing the necessary paperwork throughout the shift, and updating the information boards daily.
- Provide coaching to associates as needed to ensure all policies and procedures are followed during the shift. Examples include but are not limited to: safe work practices, time management, adherence to the plant policies, and quality assurance. If the coaching does not prove to be effective, the team leader should notify their supervisor/manager.
- Provide input in the evaluation and development of fellow team members.
- Work closely with Quality, Engineering, Maintenance as well as other production supervisors to identify areas for improvement and problem solving as they arise.
- Maintain an open line of communication with team members to communicate concerns or ideas to management in a timely manner. Included are issues regarding personnel, safety, quality, delivery, productivity, or general concerns relating to the operation area. Meetings with your manager should be scheduled as needed to address any concerns.
- Facilitate cross-training for team members
- Fill-in for absent team members as needed and provide coverage when team members support continuous improvement activities
- Execute production schedule and maintain hour by hour chart
- Monitor and maintain supplies and materials on a regular basis. Create work orders for maintenance as needed.
- Attend department meetings as necessary with the team to communicate specific customer requirements, scheduled work hours, quality, etc.
- Address any quality concerns or defects that may develop. The Team Leader may be asked to conduct training sessions with the associates to raise awareness and resolve issues.
- Facilitate continuous improvement projects. Create standard work sheet and maintain adherence.
- Facilitate a safe working environment by ensuring the work areas are always kept clean and orderly. All areas should maintain an acceptable and sustainable level of 6S (Safety and 5S).
- Take active role in plant-wide safety, including completing incident reports, attending reenactments, and following through on corrective actions.

- Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills, including a continuous improvement mindset. Exposure to lean manufacturing principles is a plus
- Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong work ethic, including the ability to be self-directed and self-motivated while taking initiative with projects and tasks
- Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and collaborative skills.
- Positive attitude with a demonstrated willingness to listen and learn
- Proficiency with computers, MS Office, and SAP is desired
- Ability to successfully prioritize multiple tasks
Experience and Education Required
- A High School diploma or GED equivalency is required from an accredited institution
- Certificate and/or AAS is preferred2 or more years in the department for which the Team Lead will be responsible is preferred
