Essential Job Duties
The Undergraduate Teaching and Outreach ( UTO) team works in service of the undergraduate community at North Carolina State University. The UTO is dedicated to excellent teaching with the goal of developing critical, ethical and empathetic information users.

We are hiring an LIS graduate student in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina, who is interested in building their in-person and online library instructional skill set to join our instruction team for the 2025-26 academic year, from August 2025 to May 2026. This position has the opportunity to be extended to the 2026/27 academic year, so LIS students entering their first year of library coursework will be prioritized. Experience with teaching or instruction is not required.

The graduate student intern will complete training and build experience with in-person library instruction topics, shadowing and teaching ~10-15 one-shot sessions per semester. They will have the opportunity to learn how to use instructional technologies and gain experience using Moodle, a Learning Management System ( LMS).

Responsibilities:

  • Shadowing, assisting with, and leading library instruction sessions
  • Collaborating with Undergraduate Teaching Librarians on online instruction projects
  • Participating in weekly team meetings
  • Participating in outreach events organized by the University or by the Libraries to introduce current or prospective students to library resources

Requirements and Preferences


Work Schedule The student is expected to set and maintain a regular schedule, though the hours are flexible to accommodate academic and other responsibilities. Available hours are generally between 7:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Monday - Friday.
Other Work/Responsibilities
Remote work is available for many responsibilities including attendance of weekly team meetings, but all library instruction sessions will be on-site in person.
Minimum Experience/Education
Bachelor's degree completed and current enrollment in an MSIS or MSLS program accredited by the American Library Association for Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 semester.
Department Required Skills

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience or interest in in-person and digital pedagogy. People with limited teaching experience are encouraged to apply as we will help you build your skillset.
  • Ability to travel to NC State Campus a minimum of one day per week for in-person instruction.

Experience or expected enrollment in courses related to instruction or library instruction is appreciated but not required.
