Job Details The Genetics of Auditory and visual Perception and Plasticity (GAPP Lab) Lab in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences in the College of Public Health and Health Professions at the University of Florida is seeking a full-time OPS Laboratory Technician. This position reports to Professor Tracy Centanni. The GAPP lab studies the brain basis of auditory and visual perception (language and reading focus), influence of gene variants on these processes, and neural plasticity. We use EEG, fMRI, and non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation in a variety of populations to answer our research questions. The current projects: This position will mainly support two projects, both of which evaluate the effect of non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation on speech in noise perception. One project involves simultaneous EEG and vagus nerve stimulation in veterans with TBI. The other project involves vagus nerve stimulation in older adults with and without hearing loss. Job Description: This is a research-oriented position, with the potential for contribution to conference abstracts, and would be great for someone with the goal of completing a PhD in a related topic area. Pending performance, the opportunity to lead a project is also available and the position could transition into a PhD trainee appointment pending funding and fit. This OPS position will provide administrative and data collection support to the GAPP Lab with duties including but not limited to: *Assisting with writing and managing Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols *Recruitment and scheduling of research participants *Data collection, including high density EEG and/or non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation *Maintaining laboratory inventory *Organizing supplies *Basic laboratory maintenance This position will work 40 hours per week. Weekly schedules will vary depending on data collection needs and may include occasional evenings and weekends. Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree in neuroscience, psychology, biology, or similar equivalent. Preferred Qualifications: *Experience with basic coding (Matlab, Python, and/or E-Prime) is desired. *Experience with electroencephalography is highly desired. *Ability to keep detailed records. *Ability to follow research and IRB protocols. *Ability to work independently.
