Responsible for the intake and logistics of facilitating outside hospital requests for patient transfers meeting the following criteria: ED to ED intensive and acute care level patients, ED to inpatient intensive and acute level care patients, inpatient to inpatient intensive and acute level care patients, critical and emergent transfers related to strokes, STEMIs, traumas, aortic emergencies, and any other coordination of intensive and acute level of care patient transfers into the University of Virginia Medical Center. Tasks include: identification and triage of calls to appropriate service lines, communication with accepting physicians, coordination with UVA's Medical Transport dispatch team (MEDCOM), coordination with the UVA Bed Center, and serving as the primary liaison between referring facilities, UVA physicians, nursing, and ancillary staff in order to facilitate safe and efficient patient transfer. Responsible for communicating with various internal and external customers involved with patient transfers and medical center operations and initiating appropriate escalation for service if needed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: High School Graduate or equivalent required. Graduation from a certified Paramedic or EMT-Intermediate education program is required. Associate's degree in EMT- Paramedic or a Bachelor's degree in Communications Emergency Services or Health Sciences is preferred. Experience: 3 years of experience at the Intermediate or Paramedic level with a high-volume career or volunteer EMS system or 3 years of experience within the hospital setting. Licensure: Must maintain current Virginia EMT-P Virginia EMT-I National. Registry NRP or National Registry NREMT-I certification(s). Must maintain current AHA Health Care Provider, BLS certification and certifications in ACLS and PALS, Certifications in PHTLS ATLS and/or AMLS preferred. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); Repetitive motion: computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100lbs.
