MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

For West Virginia Labs:

1. High School Diploma or Equivalent.

2. West Virginia Point of Care Technician (PoC) License within 90 days of hire, as applicable per physical work location assignment.

For Ohio and Maryland Labs:

1. High School Diploma or Equivalent.

PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Phlebotomy Certification (CPT).

EXPERIENCE:

1. Six (6) months of Phlebotomy, Lab Assistant or Cytopreparatory experience.

1. Prepare specimens in order to perform basic diagnostic procedures designed to contribute to accurate reproducible patient results.

2. Operate laboratory equipment/instrumentation for basic testing and specimen processing consistent with standard operating procedures.

3. Prepare reagents and solutions required to complete specimen processing and testing according to the standard operating procedures.

4. Perform quality control procedures under direct supervision to ascertain the reliability of reagents and laboratory equipment/instrumentation.

5. Perform routine maintenance and quality control of laboratory equipment/instrumentation.

6. Report test results with limited errors and in a timely manner.

7. Utilize time, materials, and resources in an economical manner, prioritizing laboratory requests and workload to provide for optimal patient care and efficiency.

8. Complete assigned workload within established turnaround times by adjusting organization of work according to test ordering status.

9. Communicate any unusual supply usage or critical supply levels to the Supervisor/Manager.

10. Communicate any unusual medical/technical problems or unusual patient results.

11. Perform clerical duties as needed to support laboratory operations.

Additional Job Description:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual for a casual Laboratory Technician position within the Anatomic Pathology Gross Room. This role involves working 1-2 weekday shifts per week (Monday through Friday), typically from 3:00 PM to approximately 7:00 PM. The primary responsibilities include performing the daily pathology specimen pickup from various hospital departments at 3:00 PM, followed by accessioning the collected specimens and assisting with the entry of all pathology specimens received during the shift. The technician will also assist with accessioning and staining frozen section specimens received from the Operating Rooms.

Additional duties include restocking laboratory supplies, cleaning grossing stations, and replacing expired or used reagents to ensure the laboratory is fully prepared for the next day. At the end of each shift, the technician is responsible for batching all grossed cassettes and transporting them to the Histology department for processing. Adherence to departmental policies and standard operating procedures is essential.

Candidates must be computer literate and have a working knowledge of medical terminology. Strong attention to detail and visual acuity for reading small print on cassettes, slides, and other materials is mandatory. A background or familiarity with biology, anatomy, and/or chemistry is preferred. This position is well-suited for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in a clinical laboratory setting, particularly those interested in pathology or related life sciences.
