Primary Purpose of Department
The School of Professional Studies ( SPS) reports to the Division of Academic Affairs, under the leadership of the Associate Provost. The School of Professional Studies works collaboratively with departments, colleges, and academic support units to ensure integrated partnerships for enrollment growth, student success, and faculty effectiveness in teaching.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Program Director's primary focus will be to drive Corporate and Executive training program growth with new and current organizations. Programs are delivered through face-to-face instruction, online, and hybrid formats. The position is responsible for initiating, designing, and overseeing Corporate Training and Executive Education programs while managing each program's quality and financial viability. Responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with corporate clients, generating revenue with a minimum financial goal, taking a proactive role in problem-solving, being results-oriented, being able to prioritize, and being a team player in a collaborative, high-paced, and busy work environment. This position will sell effective customized learning solutions to current corporate clients, while securing new clients as well. Stay abreast of issues impacting the latest talent management and learning and development trends. Key account management to ensure happy clients and repeat business. Demonstrate superb organizational and follow-up abilities. Work in collaboration with the Corporate Training and Executive Education team and instructors to ensure effective and efficient support for key customers. The Program Director's primary focus will be to generate revenue and program growth with new and current organizations for Corporate Training and Executive Education. Programs are delivered through face-to-face instruction, online, and hybrid formats.
The Program Director's primary focus will be to expertly guide corporate accounts along the customized training process path, ultimately closing agreements and generating revenue.
Summary of Position Responsibilities
The Program Director for Corporate Training and Executive Education at UNC Charlotte's School of Professional Studies is responsible for driving revenue and program growth by designing, delivering, and managing high-impact training solutions for corporate clients. This role focuses on building and maintaining strategic relationships with new and existing organizations, developing customized learning experiences, and ensuring the financial viability and quality of programs delivered in face-to-face, online, and hybrid formats. The Program Director leads sales and marketing efforts, conducts market research and needs assessments, and collaborates with subject matter experts and instructors to develop relevant, in-demand curricula. In addition to overseeing the end-to-end client engagement process-from initial consultation through delivery and evaluation-the Program Director plays a key role in key account management, budget oversight, instructional support, and compliance with continuing education standards. Success in this role requires strong business development skills, a solutions-oriented mindset, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment while ensuring exceptional client satisfaction and repeat business.
Minimum Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree with
  • Four to seven years or more of relevant business-to-business sales experience

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Master's degree
  • 7+ years of proven success in generating revenue through B2B sales
  • Experience should include managing the full sales cycle - from prospecting and needs assessment to closing deals and nurturing long-term client relationships. A track record of exceeding sales targets and generating revenue growth is essential.
  • Familiarity with the Charlotte metro market
  • 3 - 5+ years of significant work experience in, and/or knowledge of, the training and adult / continuing education field - to include but not be limited to the following areas: educational and training needs assessments and methodologies; identification and analysis of market competition; design of programs (learning objectives, curricula, course content, format) to meet educational and training needs (familiarity with both in-person and online delivery of non-credit programs is preferred); methods for assessing program effectiveness; selection of competent and effective instructors; evaluation of teaching effectiveness; program delivery (facility/logistics planning and evaluation); financial management (budgeting and pricing).
  • Marketing/promotion of programs - for example, through sales, networking,
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible management, business experience
  • Track record of client relationship development and leading strategic growth initiatives related to corporate and executive education;
  • Proven business development, networking, relationship marketing, and consultative selling skills; comfort with calling on all levels of an organization;
  • Strong business, financial, and strategic acumen;
  • Understand how to develop and implement successful new training programs by assessing corporate client needs
  • Possess a need for achievement, have demonstrated success in meeting or exceeding goals, be comfortable with digital media, and have a passion for higher education and training
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, creative thinking, and partnering skills
  • Demonstrated exceptional sense of responsibility, ownership, and pride in delivering quality results and understanding the business impact
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask in order to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision and a high volume of work with sales goals.
  • Proven experience with revenue forecasting for new program growth models

  • Experienced in working with account management in the processing of overdue accounts
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain noncredit programs, courses, and determine specific training needs for corporate customers
  • Working knowledge of educational technology - on-demand learning, e-learning, online course development, delivery, webinars, etc
  • Possesses strong sales, interpersonal skills, and dynamic executive presence
  • Understand how to manage professionals, including academics, consultants, and business development professionals
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, handle multiple priorities, and perform job responsibilities accurately with minimal supervision
  • G-Suite proficiency
  • In-depth knowledge of executive education learning methods, customers, and competitors
  • Experience with Salesforce
