POSITION SPECIFICS

We are seeking a Manufacturing Technology Engineering Technologist to join Manufacturing Engineering Technology team of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State, located in Freeport PA. You will join a team of scientists, engineers and technicians performing a wide range of applied research and development projects involving electro-optical, electro-mechanical and electronic manufacturing technology.

ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply.

You wil:

  • Apply basic knowledge of electro-optical, electronic, mechanical and engineering science principals
  • Collaborate with engineering staff and senior engineering technologists in developing, defining, and/or deriving requirements to support the design of engineering products
  • Independently perform design, development, fabrication, installation tasks for custom electrical, mechanical, and software subsystems
  • Independently research, evaluate, and recommend new engineering products and tooling to support the development of project systems
  • Develop and execute tests, provide results, address issues, and recommend modifications related to electrical, mechanical, or software subsystem based on inference of results
  • Collaborate with other engineers, scientists including faculty at Penn State, DoD laboratories, DoD program offices and related industry technical teams to accomplish project and organizational goals
  • Document your work (including test plans, procedures, reports, and other forms of formal documentation) and present your work to a variety of audiences

Required skills and experience includes:

  • A basic understanding of electro-optic, electronics and automation manufacturing technologies and materials
  • Experience with 3D modeling software
  • Ability to develop and modify CNC programming
  • Familiarity with PID control and theory
  • Experience with robotic motion and control
  • Ability to clearly communicate, document, and present results
  • Eligibility for Secret Clearance
  • Travel, up to 30%, will be required/expected to support this position

Preferred skills and experience includes:

  • Demonstrated experience with motion control and tool path generation for CNC machine tools.
  • A thorough understanding of electro-optics and electronics manufacturing technologies with the ability to recognize areas of manufacturing need and evaluate potential solutions
  • Hands on experience developing and implementing integrated electro-optics or electronic/mechanical systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to address technical audiences
  • An active Secret security clearance with eligibility for TS/SCI is highly desirable
  • A degree in Electro-Mechanical Engineering technology

Work location is at the Electro-Optics & Electronics Division in Freeport, PA.

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $61,800.00 - $89,600.00.**THE PROPOSED SALARY RANGE MAY BE IMPACTED BY GEOGRAPHIC DIFFERENTIAL**
