Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Senior Associate Director is responsible for the review, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of all accommodations processes and plans for University of North Carolina Wilmington students with disabilities in compliance with state and federal laws; consultation/outreach with faculty, staff and students regarding the needs of students with disabilities, and the provisions of academic and counseling referrals and support for students with disabilities.

The Senior Associate Director assumes responsibility for the Disability Resource Center in the absence of the Director, and represents the Director at meetings and on committees as requested. The Associate Director will oversee the enrollment process and provision of accommodations as mandated by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act as Amended, supervise all disability learning specialists. This position is also responsible for supervising the development of and maintenance of assistive and adaptive technology within the Disability Resource Center.

The Senior Associate Director trains and supervises disability learning specialists, student employees, and graduate students in the provision of accommodations. This position oversees and coordinates faculty and staff outreach, as well as trainings to the greater campus community. This position also maintains the Disability Resource Center database.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Masters degree in Special Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, or Higher Education Administration/Leadership.
  • Experience and relative expertise in the interpretation of disability-related documentation for the purpose of verifying disability and identifying appropriate accommodation plans.
  • Working knowledge of ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and policies and procedures associated with the provision of disability services within higher education.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience providing direct student services in a college or university disability support setting.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Direct supervisory experience within a college or university disability support setting.
  • 3-4 years of experience providing direct student service in a college or university disability support setting.
  • Expertise with various software platforms and programs such as Banner, Read & Write, JAWS, Microsoft Office Suite, Canvas, and disability database software.
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving skills.
