Job Summary

In this role, you will conduct field investigations and client interviews to determine work scope and cost estimates for a project's civil/structural aspects. You will lead design, development, modification, evaluation, and constructability reviews of civil/structural components and processes. Your technical expertise will ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project's civil/structural aspects are met. #LI-SF1


Major Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule, conduct, or coordinate detailed phases of the civil/structural engineering work for a global business unit, a project or staff group to include the preparation of original designs layouts, details, drawings, and specifications for structures, building, roadways, railroads, etc.
  • Design, develop, modify, and evaluate Civil/Structural components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs) and Design Control Check List (DCCL) and Design Review Notices (DRNs).
  • Design structures using advanced knowledge of structural analysis, including statics, dynamics, and materials engineering.
  • Determine the appropriate use of various structural elements such as steel, wood, masonry, and concrete to ensure appropriate material is used based on load or stress requirements.
  • Originate and check complex structural engineering deliverables, such as steel and concrete calculations, specifications, and material requisitions.
  • Analyze problems with conflicting design requirements, sketch ideas and possible solutions.
  • Analyze and report on the suitability of unconventional materials, techniques and/or difficult coordination requirements.
  • Plan, coordinate, or prepare equipment, work and material specifications, bid evaluations and award recommendations.
  • Prepare procurement and subcontract requisition documents and perform associated technical bid evaluations with award recommendations.
  • Provide assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project Civil/Structural requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution.


Education and Experience Requirements

Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.

  • Seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of area of specialization, resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways.
