Job Description

Summary

Set up and operate machinery such as lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and band saws. Work with precision instruments such as micrometers. They may also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • 1st Responsibility - Ensuring personal safety and the safety of your team members. Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures.
  • Set up and operate conventional and CNC machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to produce precision parts.
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, and materials onto machines.
  • Follow detailed job-specific instructions to ensure efficient machining processes that meet blueprint specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, or engineering specifications to determine methods or sequences of operations needed to machine products.
  • Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, or engineering information to determine methods or sequences of operations needed to machine products.
  • Machine parts to specifications, employing conventional and CNC machinery.
  • Inspect and measure finished products using precision instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, gauges) to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Maintain machine tools in proper operational condition.
  • Wear appropriate PPE, which may include fall protection, respiratory protection, hearing protection, and other necessary gear.
  • Use proper lifting techniques and ergonomic practices.
  • Assist supervisors and managers in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly workstation to promote efficiency and safety.
  • Proactively promotes The McWane Way Principles.
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate's degree in machining, Tool & Die apprenticeship, or Machinist apprenticeship program required.
  • Three to five years of related on-the-job experience required; familiarity with various machine tools, manufacturing processes, and a strong understanding of machining techniques and principles.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Ability to use precision measuring instruments.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Must have your own toolbox with basic machinist tools

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Knowledge required to perform this job includes mathematics; mechanical; production and processing; and design.

Reasoning Ability

Skills required to perform this job include operation monitoring; critical thinking; operation and control; active listening; coordination; monitoring; and blueprint reading comprehension.
