Job Description

Albemarle is hiring for a Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer. This position will be based out of our Charlotte, North Carolina office or can be based out of our Washington, DC office with significant presence in our Charlotte office.

What you will do:

Lead the Global Ethics & Compliance Team

  • Provide strategic guidance and leadership on ethics & compliance matters for a global, public, regulated company.

Governance

  • Oversee and shape the corporation's ethics and compliance governance framework, and associated controls/systems to align with the changing global landscape and business needs.
  • Leads compliance monitoring, risk assessments and related advice on the Company's global trade compliance program in collaboration with the Supply Chain function.
  • Ensures the review of the Company's Code of Conduct and recommend updates to policies and procedures.
  • Supports other Functions (e.g., Finance, Government & Community Affairs, Procurement, Sales, Supply Chain) on the design and maintenance of their respective governance frameworks/systems, ensuring ethics and compliance controls are embedded as appropriate.

Training, Guidance & Communications

  • Manages and develops the Company's ethics & compliance education and training programs, to identify areas for revision; execute changes as needed and monitor for continuous improvement. Align with areas of improvement.
  • Champions a compliance culture and ethics-based decision-making and explains and reinforces management's commitment to ethical standards and the Company's Code of Conduct.
  • Serve as a business partner to functional, and geographic business leaders - helping business leaders achieve their objectives in compliance with the law and ethical business standards.

Risk Management

  • Maintains the Company's current ethics & compliance risk assessment, in accordance with our Enterprise Risk Management framework. Partnering with our Risk Management team to continue to enhance our programs.
  • Identify and recommend pragmatic solutions and control improvements to identified risks and compliance control gaps.
  • Maintains Albemarle's ethics and compliance due diligence framework for business partners (distributors, suppliers, joint ventures, M&A counterparties).

Analytics, Metrics, Monitoring, Investigations & Audit

  • Oversees and develops the ethics & compliance analytics, metrics, and monitoring programs.
  • Develops strategies and methods for measuring and assessing the effectiveness of the compliance program and partners with stakeholders to report key performance indicators to the Audit and Finance Committee of the Board of Directors, as well as senior management. Oversees Albemarle's investigations framework and supports Code of Conduct investigations.

  • Collaborates and partners with Albemarle's Internal Audit function in relation to internal and third-party compliance & ethics audits.
  • Collaborates and partners with Albemarle's Supply Chain function to manage trade compliance governance and advice.

External Engagement

  • Benchmark and participate in industry associations to identify and integrate best practices into the program.

What you bring:

  • At least a bachelor's degree with at least 15 or more years of experience of ethics & compliance experience. Juris doctor degree strongly preferred.
  • Ability to drive change and adoption of new initiatives and programs through proactive communication, strong stakeholder engagement, and change management best practices.
  • Effectively engage and influence diverse teams in a highly collaborative manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to gain the confidence of internal stakeholders, government agencies and community and industry groups to ensure that positive working relationships are developed and maintained on behalf of the Company.
  • Proven ability to strategically frame and prioritize risk-related assessments and action plans, evaluate issues incisively and pragmatically, and independently make decisions regarding complex issues with minimal supervision.
  • Unquestioned integrity and ethics in business and personal conduct.
  • Substantive knowledge and experience in relation to:
    • Bribery & anti-corruption laws
    • Global competition/antitrust laws
    • Third-party risk management (anti-money laundering, fraud, modern slavery, conflict minerals, sanctions).
