Data Scientist (Financial Risk Management)

Overview

This role is on the model development team in Financial Risk Management (FRM) within the Treasury department in Finance. The model developer will be responsible for end-to-end model estimation and implementation, including data ETL, variable selection, and performance testing. The developer will also be involved in model deployment and validation, meeting regularly with stakeholders to assess ongoing model performance and design choices. The candidate should have experience in statistical model development as well as a solid understanding of balance sheet risk management and credit union financial exposures such as credit risk and interest rate risk. The ideal candidate has a background in economics or finance and a strong grasp of the credit union business model and current economic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and evaluate basic/routine predictive models and algorithms with some complexity
  • Analyze and interpret results with some complexity
  • Limited judgment and discretion within defined procedures and practices
  • Develop and code basic software programs, algorithms, and automated processes
  • Use modeling and trend analysis to analyze data
  • Collaborate with team members and participate in team projects and initiatives
  • Utilize effective written and verbal communication to document and present findings

Qualifications

  • 2-5 years of experience in exploratory data analysis

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Economics, Finance, Data Science, or Statistics
  • Background in finance or economics
  • FRM/CFA or related certification
  • Experience or coursework estimating and implementing statistical models using real-world economic data
  • Experience or coursework in asset-liability management and financial risk management
  • Understanding of financial statements and types of risk faced by credit unions

Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30AM - 5:00PM
