6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Monday - Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours required, as necessary.
This position is designated as 'mandatory' and, when contacted to report to work, its incumbent is expected to reach the building as expeditiously as possible using normal precautions as dictated by the adverse weather conditions. |
Primary Purpose of Position |
This is a Facility Maintenance Technician (Specialty Trades) at the Contributing level with a specialty in Fire Sprinkler Service, Inspection and Maintenance. The position is considered to be fully functioning in a particular trade area, and is expected to be able to perform all general maintenance work at the contributing level. This position may also be given the opportunity to perform/learn another trade discipline either at the contributing or journey level. Tasks may include maintenance, repair, placement, fabrication, installation, alteration, construction and design of facility components in assigned zone or core maintenance. |
Minimum Education/Experience |
Required Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
University Preferred Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. |
Essential Job Duties |
- Inspect, repair and maintain campus fire sprinkler systems, including fire pump maintenance and testing.
- Manage contracted fire sprinkler vendors' work as required.
- Produce accurate and relevant documentation on all work performed.
- Perform work in compliance with University and NC State standards.

Other Work Responsibilities |
- Assist fire alarm technicians as requested.
- Support and adhere to the University's policies and procedures.
- Attend required meetings and training classes.
- Work as a team member at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned and/or delegated to support all operations.

Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education |
- High school diploma or GED Equivalency.
- Two years' of experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of physical plant facilities required.
- Effective skills in verbal, written and interpersonal communications.
- Computer literate.
- Knowledge and skill with Google Chrome, Microsoft Word and Excel, and willingness to learn new programs.
- Ability to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork.

Necessary Licenses or Certifications |
Positions may be required to possess and maintain required certification, licensure, educational level, and/or experience criteria as applicable to the tasks being performed and follow applicable building codes.
- Valid driver's license required. The FM Technician Mechanical Trades operates assigned vehicles on and/or off campus and is required to possess, maintain, or obtain a valid driver's license upon appointment to the position.
