Brief Summary of Job Duties

Under the Direction of the Patient Experience Supervisor, the Storekeeper is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment for our patients and staff by providing and ordering maintenance, repairs, furniture move, and phone services to meet daily facility needs. Responsible for receiving goods, stocking the supply room, delivering supplies and other items to the departments and individuals. Works independently, as part of a team with Facilities and Furniture Services staff, or as an assistant to the Senior Storekeeper.

Required Qualifications

* High School Diploma or equivalent.

* Current CA Pharmacy Technician License.

Preferred Qualifications

* At least 1 year of experience in a pharmacy setting.

Special Conditions of Employment

* Must successfully complete and pass the background check and credentialing process before start date and date of hire.

* To comply with Santa Barbara County Public Health Department Health Officer Order, this position must provide evidence of annual influenza vaccination, or wear a surgical mask while working in patient care areas during the influenza season.

* Per California Code of Regulations Title 8, Section 5199 Aerosol Transmissible Disease Standard requires; upon hire and annually thereafter Tuberculosis (TB) screening for all employees. The method of testing is determined by past medical history and any current symptoms.

* Per Cal/OSHA regulations and UCSB Campus Policy, all UCSB personnel who use respiratory protection equipment shall be included in the UCSB Respiratory Protection Program and required to complete respirator fit testing upon hire and annually thereafter, completed by UCSB Environmental Health & Safety.

* Any HIPAA/FERPA violation is subject to disciplinary action.

* Student Health is closed between the Christmas and New Year's Day holidays.

* UCSB is a Tobacco-Free environment.

Misconduct Disclosure Requirement:

As a condition of employment, the final candidate who accepts a conditional offer of employment will be required to disclose if they have been subject to any final administrative or judicial decisions within the last seven years determining that they committed any misconduct; received notice of any allegation or are currently the subject of any administrative or disciplinary proceedings involving misconduct; have left a position after receiving notice of allegations or while under investigation in an administrative or disciplinary proceeding involving misconduct; or have filed an appeal of a finding of misconduct with a previous employer.

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:

Pharmacy Duties 95%

* Under the supervision of a pharmacist, assist in all aspect of pharmacy duties in order to provide medications to the clinics and patients of Student Health.

* Use knowledge of safe handling of prescription medications to ensure their potency and effectiveness as relates to storage and expiration.

* Under the supervision of a pharmacist select appropriate medication for a prescription, count, prepare and label a prescription for pharmacists' review prior to dispensing.

* Using knowledge of pharmacy abbreviations and terminology be able to transcribe and type information from a prescription to ensure required information is accurate on the prescription label.

* Under the supervision of a pharmacist handle large quantities of prescription medications for pre-packaging, including maintaining appropriate paperwork and determination of appropriate expiration dates.

* Assist in the maintenance of drug inventory and maintain appropriate paperwork for expired medication returns to manufacturer for credit, disposal or destruction.

* Utilize knowledge of restrictions in handling narcotic stock for return to manufacturer for destruction and appropriate notification of the DEA and California State Board of pharmacy with appropriate paperwork.

* Knowledge of pharmacy math as needed to determine liquid or other quantities of medications as needed to keep accurate inventory records.

* Be able to communicate knowledge of pharmacy trade and generic names in order to determine for patients or doctors if SHS pharmacy stock is inter-changeable as prescribed.

* Assist patients with all prescription and non-prescription needs including preparation of refill authorization forms and other insurance or pharmacy paperwork.

* Under the supervision of a pharmacist communicate with physicians and their assistants regarding refill prescriptions in order to provide vital information needed to make medical decisions for individual patients and their prescription needs.

* Support and promote new policies.

* Develop and contributes new ideas offering workable plans when appropriate.

* Interpret and adhere to lines of authority and uses proper channels for communication.

* Respect and guard confidentiality of patients and other staff members as per HIPAA and FERPA requirements.

* Responsible for gathering all information needed to bill BARC.

* Must know all aspects of Access and BARC transactions.

* Assist customers with billing inquiries and provide research and documentation as needed.

* Extensive record keeping and organizational skills are required.

* Answers phones and refers to appropriate personnel for general questions about SHS procedures.

* Maintain equipment and keep work area neat, clean and orderly. Direct or escort patients as needed.

Administrative 5%

* Other duties as directed by the pharmacy director or their designee.
