What you'll be doing...

Verizon seeks a qualified Counsel, Trademark and Copyright to join its IP Law & Policy team. This position will report to the Managing Associate General Counsel responsible for the availability and protection of trademarks and copyrights.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Counseling on trademark and copyright law.

  • Reviewing and analyzing preliminary and comprehensive trademark clearance searches in the U.S. and throughout the world and rendering availability opinions.

  • Preparing, filing and prosecuting trademark applications, as well as maintaining trademark registrations.

  • Preparing and filing copyright certificate of registration applications.

  • Drafting and negotiating IP agreements, including license agreements, coexistence agreements, consent agreements and settlement agreements.

  • Analyzing potential infringement situations and assisting in assertion of rights, including drafting cease and desist letters, domain name complaints, copyright takedown notices, and social media complaints.

  • Managing budgets, including developing initiatives for the reduction, control and budgeting of outside counsel costs.

  • Providing metrics to management.

  • Assisting in the development of educational/training material regarding trademarks and copyrights.

What we're looking for... You'll need to have:
  • JD degree and six or more years of relevant work experience.

  • Bar membership and any needed licenses.

  • Ability to travel up to 25% Travel

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • In-depth knowledge of trademark and copyright laws.

  • Leadership skills with a track record of cross-departmental initiatives.

  • Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.

  • Background in technology, media, or telecommunications industries.

  • Strong ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and respond to time-sensitive requests with quality work product in a fast-paced, often unpredictable, environment, at all times in a cost-effective manner.

  • Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Where you'll be working

The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part-time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours. The annual salary range for the location(s) listed on this job requisition based on a full-time schedule is: $161,000.00 - $280,000.00.
