This role is ideal for professionals with a strong background in repairing and maintaining landscape, groundskeeping, construction, or light industrial equipment-not traditional automotive vehicles. The position involves hands-on repair work, preventive maintenance, and supervision of shop personnel and contractors.

Typical equipment includes but is not limited to utility vehicles (e.g., Gators), walk-behind and/or ride-on mowers, snow blowers, compact excavators, trimmers, pressure washers, and other similar machines. This position also oversees the day-to-day operation of the equipment shop, manages assigned equipment mechanics, and ensures safe and efficient repair practices. If you have specialized experience working with small engines, hydraulic systems, and outdoor equipment, we encourage you to apply.

We are currently hiring for the following location(s):
849 Trailview Blvd, Leesburg, VA

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on small and mid-sized gas and diesel-powered equipment, including light construction and landscaping machinery.
  • Supervise shop operations, including scheduling, assigning tasks, and monitoring performance of mechanics, seasonal workers, and/or contractors.
  • Manage records, parts inventory, and warranty coordination with outside vendors.
  • Develop and implement maintenance procedures, safety standards, and shop policies.
  • Support staff training and ensure compliance with OSHA and departmental equipment guidelines.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent is required, preferably with specialized training in small engine repair, equipment diagnostics, hydraulics, or a similar mechanical trade-either through a vocational program, certification, or apprenticeship and a minimum of four (4) years of related experience, with at least one (1) year in a lead technician, shop supervisor, or senior mechanic role; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred experience includes repair and maintenance of small to mid-sized powered equipment, such as mowers, utility vehicles, compact construction equipment, and other landscape or facility machinery.

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

Must undergo pre-employment criminal, credit, and DMV background checks. Valid driver's license and good driving record required. Annual reviews of driving records may be conducted to maintain qualification.

Hold or obtain a CDL (Class A) with passenger, airbrake, and/or tanker endorsements within six (6) months of hire are required. The successful candidate holding a CDL must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screen and comply with the Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Program as outlined by Loudoun County's Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Policy for Transportation Employees.
